XBOX problem!

when i start up my xbox, it shows this message:

Your XBOX Requires Service. Please Call Xbox Customer support..

anyways and the power light keeps flashing RED... what's wrong?

and it won't work!

someone help?

Does it have a number in a box by chance? That may explain it.

Otherwise I suspect it's some manner of controller (as in IDE, USB, etc.) failure. Have you modded your XBox at all?

That screen is so cryptic, how could anyone figure out what to do next??? Try calling XBox Customer Support maybe??? Or go whine about it online.

i've had it flash orange or red on me before.. I just made sure the disc was reinserted properly and that it was clean... it eventually worked again. Also try replugging. Otherwise it's a hardware failure... not to state the obvious...

i'd rather not call MS support.. i have a modded xbox and i'd rather not take the risk. and it shows no error code..just the "you need service" message

since its modded, is it error code 05 by any chance? i'm guessing you're trying to boot your xbox with the mod chip off and your hard drive has not been locked. pm me for details.

Okay, what mod chip, what bios did you install, have you upgraded the HDD and if so with what?

The guide seems to support my initial thought that it's some kind of Hard Drive connection error. Your new HDD may have taken a header, which is unfortunate. Try adjusting the connections or even replacing the cable and see what happens.

If your mod chips is one of the chips on a puyo pin setup it's possible that the chip has become misaligned. Try booting it without the chip in or with the chip turned off.

i have no idea what bios he installed but there's a matrix modchip in there. this is my friend's xbox and i purchased it for him from someone on ATOT.. i have to get it to work before my friend picks it up. i think the modchip may have been misaligned, since it's solderless.. all that banging from the fedex truck must have done something. problem is i'm pretty much a noob and i don't know how to open up the xbox, or even how to identify the modchip..

Oh dear. Well, you may want to learn quickly.

First thing you'll need is a set of Torx screwdrivers/bits. They look like a pointed hex design. It's important that you get Torx drivers and don't fake it, because you will strip the screws if you try. Anyway, you'll need a Torx 10, a Torx 20 and possibly a Torx 15.

Check in the Tutorials section of XBox-Scene for some guides on how to open it up. But don't even bother if you don't have the Torx drivers.

I suggest you buy the bits for a... erm... whatever you call the screwdrivers that take different hex-shaped bits. Probably cheaper, just as effective.

see i thought its necessary only when you replaced the original hdd. If you are using the stock hdd, then it is already locked, no?

Also, I have heard that M$ is looking into checking the serial number on the hdd to see if it is one of theirs....maybe its just a rumor.

just a question, when is unlocking and locking the hdd necessary?

When you want to tempt fate and try to play on Live with a modded box.

If your chip has a switch you should be okay. Just make sure to turn the chip off before you connect, and that you've done a "Stealth" install.
