XBox Piracy bust

A search warrant was executed at the home, during which the following was seized: five computers; equipment related to the manufacturing, testing and distribution of counterfeit Xbox games; two modified Xbox systems used to play the counterfeit games; three CD carrying cases containing more than 500 counterfeited games; more than 2,400 blank DVDs; and Internet orders for games.

Off-site back-up location is key! 😉

I hate when they say it cost the game industry so much money. They always say piracy costs the industry billions of dollars each year, but would each person who pirates a game have actually bought it if piracy wasn't available?

I love the way they toss out BS numbers.

"Based on an average cost per legitimate game of US$50, investigators estimate the loss to the gaming industry and retailers at approximately US$735,000. This total does not include loss of tax revenue. "

I hope their lawyer makes MS say what it cost them to make the game. I bet you that 50 dollars really should only be $20.

For some reason, that doesn't make any damn sense.

Why don't they take a walk around Chinese... err... Pacific Mall. I dont think anything they sell is legal. 😉

Of course it makes sense. If I download a music CD, it doesn't mean I would've actually bought it had it not been available for download. Maybe I downloaded it out of convenience and wouldn't have cared about it otherwise.

i think that's stretching the truth a bit, but none the less.... cost microsoft a few pennies.

A piracy bust in Canada? WTF?

Quite frequent actually. About a year and a half ago, there was a string of bust (on behalf of MS) of tech repair shops up here for repairing/install Windows without original CDs. The shop i worked at the time didn't get busted, but about 4 others on the same street did.

Actually now that you mention it, a place I purchased a Pentium 200MMX 😛 system from in Windsor was busted in 1996 or so... same thing... Windows 95 warez version installs for customers and no Windows CD included with a new system!! OMGWTF it makes me shudder now
