Ok I know there have been alot of these. But I haven't seen any lately.

Basically I want a console, and I like to play sports games. Though I would play it for
others but mainly sports games.

Which is better or would you prefer. I am not putting gamecube up here cause I don't
want a gamecube.

 
Either one is perfectly fine for primarily sports games. If you like the Sega sports games, go for Xbox. I think they're only on Xbox.

That's your opinion.

Xbox has *many* great games as does the PS2.

The difference is that the hardware in the Xbox is slighty better (including broadband & 2 free games).

Most professional magazine reviews say that the cross-platform games look *better* on the Xbox than the PS2..........Surprisingly, the GC has the worst cross-platform graphics despite its hardware, which leads many to believe that programmers view the GC as "lower importance". Programmers also detest progamming for the PS2 b/c it's complicated.

The only game I can think of that PS2 has that I really want is GTA Vice City. And that is coming to the PC soon! :Q 🙂


Personally, I have the GC and Xbox and I'm very happy with them. 🙂 A true gamer would own 2 different consoles if possible--this makes fanboy arguments uneccessary.
 
Playstation 2...free online play! Also, you gotta admit that the PS2 Controller > XBox controller AND PS2 Games > XBox Games...especially if you are a fan of RPGs
 
Each has it's pluses and minuses.....you're going to get XBox fanboys saying their system is better and you're going to get PS2 fanboys saying their system is better....pick the one you want, not the one everyone wants YOU to get
 
I don't own either, but if I were buying right now I'd probably get an Xbox; I've seen better deals on their consoles lately.
 
Get an XBOX cause its awesome. Great for gaming... try games like Amped, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4. Then there is the xbox live factor.

Since you're a sports fan the Xbox sports games look better, but between the ps2 and xbox they both have EA and Sega sports? Those are the two best sports franchises imho.
 
ps2 just for the shear dominating market share and the fact that not only are they getting the most games, but also more games are being developed for ps2 than any other console- and quality games for that matter 🙂

overall, i'd still prefer a gamecube.

Yep, maybe even sooner then that, like later this month.

Damm forget buying a computer for grandma, just get a X-Box for $150 and hack it

 
I will say they are equal (offline) for every type of game except RPGs. If you like those games I find so boring and pointless, get a PS2.

Asside from that, Xbox has better graphics, progressive scan support and dolby digital in every game plus the option of Xbox Live which I hear is a lot better than what Sony has.

On a side note, I use my Xbox S controller for PC games and it is a lot better than any PC game pad they sell.

Nah, the earliest drop would be in May.

For my recommendation I would say to go for the xbox.
