Really? I just bought an OEM 150/150 one a few weeks ago for $200.

On the subject, go with the Xbox. I have only played one game on the Gamecube so I am not the best experienced with it but I have had an Xbox for months and it is a great peice of machinery.

My vote is for GC all the way (or PS2). Rare (nintendo's "2nd party developer") never lets Nintendo down, and they will have some kickass games coming (for N64 they had Goldeneye - best console shooter ever, Bajzo-Kazooie (not one of my favourites but...), Perfect Dark, and some other games). Also, Resident Evil 1-4 and 0 are GC only; how's that for kiddie games. Don't forget the new Zelda, which looks to be one of the funnest games ever. It will take a couple of years but the GC will have a pretty sweet library. I'd say go with the GC all the way, otherwise get a PS2.

Why the X-Box is good:
1) Cheaper - you pay for the DVD remote, but needing to buy $50 in memory modules to save your point in a $40 game is a scam.
>>

what are you talking about??? can't you save your games to the hard disk?

I've always had a love for Nintendo, but IMO, their last great console was the SNES. Hundreds of games to chose from with a LOT of good games such as

Mario series (Mario world, Yoshi's island, Mario kart, mario paint, Mario RPG, etc)
Square Games (Final fantasy 3, Chrono trigger, etc)
Konami games (Castlevania and a lot of other games i can't think of right now)
Capcom games (Streetfighter series, Megaman series, final fight which i think was capcom?)
The Legend of Zelda
Killer Instinct
Star Fox

Feel free to add to this list, as i know i forgot something. These are all i can think of right now but i know my local blockbuster used to have a ton more than I tried out.

Seems depressing that Nintendo is so slow to get games out for their systems these days. Actually gameboy games are comming out pretty fast.

Overall i don't know what to get. I'm happy with my PC.

XBox.

Why?
First, I'll list the games that I am hyped for on my XBox, then I'll continue.....

1. MechAssault I'm a fan of the Battletech universe (scr*w EA for killing Battletech 3025) and it looks like Microsoft has every intention of keeping the old FASA franchises alive. Online play, immersive backstory, blowing up buildings, crazy graphics....OH Boy!!!

2. Dead to Rights As much as I enjoyed Max Payne on the PC and on my XBox, the title only wetted my appetite for more bullet time action, plus more control over my character. Dead to Rights looks like Max Payne done right.

oh..and my biyatch, gotta get it game...
3. Morrowind: The Eldar Scrolls III
This title is coming out for the XBox AND the PC, but since I don't own a top of the line PC (recommended is a P3/800), but I do own Dolby 5.1 surround sound, and since I prefer having the option to play this wonderful title either on my couch, or in the comfort of my bedroom...XBOX baby.

And no, there is NO real difference between the PC and XBox versions of Morrowind. The PC comes with the game editor, and it supports a higher resolution, but I couldn't imagine it being more immersive on a PC than it would be on my XBox with it's 5.1 surround + a 51" HDTV display + the comfort of my couch or bed.......................drool.

back to the regulars on the list....

4. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings
That's right people. A third person, over the shoulder romp through Middle Earth. This title has been in development since before the XBox was announced. Unless I'm mistaken, and unless I've read the past previews incorrectly, the developers are aiming for a more mature Zelda... Tomb Raideresque feel to the game. If the sale for this are good, and I'm sure they will be, the next two stories(games) will be made as well. And don't confuse this title with the MOVIE based product being created by EA. This title is being created specifically for the BOX.

5: Superman: Man of Steel
Ok, I admit it I'm a geek. This game looks cool. Whose gonna resist flying through those skylines?

...these are just a few of the confirmed, must get titles that I'm waiting for, but I won't go into a long list. You can find a more detailed list at The TEAMXBOX Site.

I also wanted to add one possible title for my favorite console.
Shadowrun

Check out this thread...
Shadowrun coming to the XBox!!!!

Oh my.

Plus, the XBox will get all of SEGA's top 2003 sports titles (Football, Basketball, Baseball), all with online play, and all arguably better or more feature rich than what they'll release on the PS2 or Gamecube.

Plus, a lot of titles on other platforms will eventually make there way to the XBox...GTA3, Metal Gear Solid 2, Virtual Fighter 4.1 (or is that just a rumor?)

Plus, I happen to think Microsoft will have a sports lineup that will surpass what EA Sports has to offer. There first two offerings were a good start. NBA Inside Drive 2002 has the best combination of good graphics and great controls on ANY platform (lack of a franchise mode, lack of a create a player and the abundance of block shots knocked this title down to B- status though). NFL Fever 2002 probably has EA Sports AND Sega worried. I'll admit, I hate the suspect defensive AI and the 5 minute lock in franchise mode...but they look to be addressing certain mistakes in the 2003 version, plus they are adding customizable playbooks AND Online Play.

Can you guys tell I'm happy with my XBox?

I am.

It's also a GREAT second home DVD player. There were a few DVDs that didn't play cleanly on our first DVD players (lots of Disney films, The Ten Commandments), but fly without a hiccup on my XBox.

Man, I can't wait to attend E3 this year.

OH, I forgot to add one MUST HAVE game to my list.

Without the chance of Gran Turismo 3 ever making it's way to my favorite console (of all time) my hopes for a truly great
simulation driving title rest on SEGA GT 2002.

So far there hasn't really been ANY information given on this title, and from what I've heard the Dreamcast version wasn't much to brag about, but there is still hope. Project Gotham wasn't the one for me (hate the name too) and Rallisport, though great, isn't a racing simulation.

OS Dre' is OUT!

XBOX!

There are already a bunch of great games out for XBOX, and there's a hell of a lot more coming this year. PS2 is priced the same as XBOX, and unless there are some really appealing titles that you've seen on the PS2, XBOX is the no brainer here.

GameCube really hasn't impressed me, even though it's significantly cheaper. The games haven't been that good at all IMHO.

Dang it.

Sorry guys. I keep thinking of other titles I'm looking forward to after I've posted.

I've got to include Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

A game like Baldur's Gate, but in 3D, with 5.1 surround sound on a large screen HDTV!?!?!?

drool................sorry bout that.

I have a hard time controlling my liquids.

Gamecube all the way.

Sure xBox has better gfx, but how can you say no to Smash Bros, Zelda, Mario, Starfox, Resident Evil, Metroid AND F-Zero (made by sega!), all for this year!

Maybe its just because I've been playing Nintendo consoles my entire life, but I put my absolute faith in nintendo. One of the few companies I actually trust. Trust MS or Sony? Never.

Besides, the GC controller is a work of art, it comes with 4 ports, its $100 cheaper, and comes free of all that useless sh*t like a web browser, modem and hard drive.

RE blows. F-Zero on the 64 sucked. Star Fox for the 64 was just waaaay too short. Smash Bros on the GC can't compare to the 64 version. The Mario & Zelda games look interesting but it's too little too late to save the GC.

Here is a problem I have with buying the GameCube. I had a playstation and liked it a lot. I never bought an N64 but had some friends with them. Granted, there are a few good games, but overall, there just wasn't much selection with N64 software. Sure, 1000 games for PS1 equated to only about 50 or so that were actually good titles, but quantity gives the consumer some security. Having 1000 games to pick from is appealing as players have different opinions about games.

So, I like having a large library to choose from. N64 was terrible in this regard, and the lineup so far from N has been pretty unimpressive. I'm holding off buying one until there are couple games I want. I did the same for PS2, and the same will be done for the XBOX.

The cartridge format is what killed game availablility for the N64. CD's are a lot cheaper format, so a video game company can make a total bomb (Daikatana) and not go completely broke.

Which is why the new Gamecube will succeed. There are plenty of units in people's homes now. With that large an installed user base, and a platform that is that easy to program for... Nintendo can't lose.

This is not a bad idea. I waited a couple of years to buy a PS2, but I bought a GC and an xbox immediately. :) It is probably better to wait, expecially if you have a PS2 already.

If you are buying one on impulse, buy an xbox.
