I've been losing nights of sleep just debating whether I should get a gamecube or an xbox so help me out here.

I know this has been asked before, but there was a ps2 in there too..
what do you have? and what do you recommend?

:D thanks

edit: I have a ps2 already :)

Xbox. Nintendo is going to lose this lawsuit and go out of business soon.

What games do you like to play? Check out the current games for each system, plus games to come out this year, then choose for yourself...

Choose one and be happy with it. There are plenty of games on either system to keep you happy. I chose Gamecube because I liked it size and portability. I wasn't keen on hauling around a vcr sized box to friends and relatives houses. The Kobe Bryant basketball is pretty kickass.

in order of my preference:

ps2, gamecube, xbox.

also wondering why you're not considering a PS2. But if i had to choose between the two, i'd go Gamecube

My preference also goes PS2, GC, XBox. Although, depending on the types of games you like, you can't really lose going with any of the three.

I saw an interview with the sony guys a while back about the release of the X box and I think they said something about releasing a ps3 early to compete better with X box. I wonder when that will be?

go with Xbox, you can't beat games like Halo, Morrowind III, Project Ego. Gamecube is ok but no offense it has more kiddy type of games. Xbox is superior in terms of hardware.

Yeah gamecube games are fairly kiddy...but they're supposed to be. You have to admit that the character library that Nintendo has created, that so many people are loyal to, is extremely impressive. I still have so much fun playing the old Mario Kart. I recently demoed Super Smash bros. for GameCube and it was a blast. Overall, I find Nintendo games to be more creative, inspiring, and fun than most other game systems. Of course Sony has some great games...look at the size of their library! Even a blind monkey will throw a strike if it tries enough. Not to say I don't like PS or anything (in fact I don't even own a console. Why should I when everyone else does ;-P ) and some of the Xbox games are cool too. Mostly I'm just playing devil's advocate here and trying to give some props to Nintendo.

GAMECUBE by fffaaarr...and Ive had a ps2 and played an xbox.

The downside of a Gamecube is "kiddy games". What is a Kiddy game? Graphics? Content? Ive played lots of "adult" games that freakin suck. (Can ya say like Nightmare Creatures for example). Games are supposed to be fun. Because a game lets me shoot heads with a shotgun dosent make it fun.:) NIntendo provides "quality" games.....some like to call em "kiddy":)

My friend (we're 18) has a Gamecube. There aren't that many good titles out for it yet. It's mainly a "party" system - for many people to get around and play. I usually play video games alone, only ocassionaly do i play with somebody else. I like the XBOX cause you can play online against others; it doesn't cost if you use GameSpy, btw. I've played many Halo games online, which is a blast. PS2 currently has the best titles, but I bet that will change within the next year, and if it doesn't, many of my friends have them :) We will see.

I'd have to say Xbox if you like variety... Gamecube's kiddie games are really fun and great games, but if you get bored easily, Gamecube won't fulfill your thirst for the latest game. I guess your PS2 can, but then again, developers are flocking toward the Xbox (less so to Nintendo).

Featurewise, the XBox will always rule over the Gamecube... Nintendo seems incredibly reluctant to sell/make expansion items.
But if you just want crazy fun party games? GamecubeGamecubeGamecube.

Its really sad... I'm a Nintendo fanboy and I still haven't seen any games begging for me to buy a Gamecube (except for Smash Bros). The big three promote their games by showing the best bits of their games in commercials and except for the Star Wars stuff, its been pretty unimpressive. Heck NBA2k2 looks better than the NBA Street ads I've been seeing.

I read a review on Virtua Fighter 4 for PS2 and it couldn't touch the almighty DOA3, so XBOX it is.

For the next few months, Xbox has the best titles (JSRF, yadda yadda yadda). The Sega support for XBox makes it a decent choice in the short term.

Towards the end of the year, Gamecube will have the killer apps (Mario, RE Zero, etc).

PS2... the games still look like glorified PS1 games, and of all the games in the massive library, there are only a few that are actually fun. Nothing to great coming out in the near future.

I voted Gamecube because if you have friends, there are games you just HAVE to have.

I've been playing my friend's GameCube a lot lately, and though the library is small, the games are really fun. Lots of replay value. Also, lots of Gamecube games are fun for multiplayers, definitely a must for game parties.
