Xbox One -vs- PS4 for a toddler - Any kid friendly games out there?

PS4 has plenty of great kids-friendly games, Trines 2 is a good start, a handful of PS+ based games, and Infinity 2.0 is coming in Sept.

But it's a little early getting a 2 year old into video games.
Toddlers lack the manual dexterity in their hands and fingers to manage playing any console game.

Quite the opposite, toddlers can have amazing capability.

Did any of you stating that toddlers shouldn't be playing consoles actually read the OP? He is looking for a console for HIM (and adult) to play games that give some enjoyment to his toddler. I don't think TLoU is going to get a 2 year old happy to be watching daddy play it. If the toddler is familiar with things like Lego and superheroes / cartoons, games that showcase that will make him happy to sit and watch.

The only reason I suggested an Xbox One, was because of the Kinect integration. Some of the simpler games might be appropriate to show him he is controlling things on screen.

My thoughts:
How about you get off your lazy fat ass off the couch and take your 2 year old out for a walk, to the store, swings, balls..etc. 2 year old should be expose to real life and not sit in front of a TV for your excuse to game for yourself, while the toddler just sits there and watch you play. Grow up.

Yeah, man. If you're EVER in your house with your kid, you're a bad parent. No self-respecting man would let his child step foot into the house before he's 13, because going inside makes you a shut-in fatty who can't deal with social engagements.

I mean, there's NO WAY, you can play outside with your kid, then come inside after a day of physical activity and relax on the couch. In fact, sell your house and live on the streets, because the fresh air is better for your kid than heating and plumbing and shelter.

Hahaha. You can always count on the Internet to put the ASS in ASSume.

Maybe this guy plays video games for thirty minutes and wants suggestions on games he can play during that THIRTY MINUTES that his kid would enjoy watching. Man asks a reasonable question and everyone pounces on him like he strapped his 2 year old to a high chair for 12 hour a day marathons of him killing cops and groping strippers in GTA V. Jeebus.

On topic, try playing Just Dance for your kid. My niece gets a kick out of watching uncoordinated adults try to Just Dance. Two years old is probably enough to participate (albeit, poorly) as well. Plus it counts as exercise for all the super-judgmental folks in this thread. Hook up the console to a projector outdoors and you've checked off all the boxes for the parental guidance nazis in this thread.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it and I know you didn't ask:

But get yourself a Wii U. There are enough "adult games" to satisfy you, and at least on my end my nephews love the goddamn Wii U Pad.

Just letting the youngest (about 5ish) wreck his brothers in Mario Wii U is satisfying.

Pick up a few kid friendly games (Mario Kart while probably above his understanding, it is so vibrant I'm sure any kid would like it) and call it a day.

Just my suggestion.

EDIT: Just saw this thread is from June haha. So ignore my post. I'm off!

For me, I wouldn't have them playing games or being too drawn to screens until they are older than 2. Too much unnatural stimulus is bad for a child and can lead to ADHD in the future. As my pediatric speech pathologist mother says, "Apps are like visual crack for kids, what kid wants to look at bugs and leaves after being blasted with interactive cartoons?"

If you had to get something, I'd caution away from a tablet because its too easy for the kid to spend a bunch of time on it and can end up being a crutch for you as a parent. A tablet does not need to be a pacifier. In that case, the console is actually a really good choice because the kid can't play by themselves because its more involved to start up and play. It could be good quality time. I'd say go with the Xbox One. There are plenty of kinetic games on there that would be fun. Wii U would also be good, Mario! IMO PS4 is more adult oriented.
