Xbox One Pre-Orders available at Best Buy

Microsoft probably were able to increase supply. They had announced earlier on that they were not going to presell the entire shipment because they wanted people who didn't preorder to at least have some opportunity to pick up one at release.

In spite of the earlier PR problems, Xbox One preorders have actually shot up and maxed out many store allotments. I think the PS4 will still win the preorder war, but I think by the end of November the numbers will be closer than some think.

Since completely reversing their stance on DRM as well as making the Kinect completely optional, MS has removed some of the most obvious advantages the PS4 had over it except for the price and some hardware differences. This should make many people happy, since it will mean that it will be the quality of the games that dictate overall value and not some arbitrary feature.

I'm not pushing for or against either console and I suggest no one start doing that or else this thread will live a very short life 😛

Ms had some very big problems with its yields, maybe they have fixed this, it would mean more product. Right now MS needs some good PR in every country but the US..

There WW launch is down to what, 13 countries? I don't think they have that many consoles, but they are definitely pushing what they have into the US and UK, their last remaining stronghold, which are slipping away.

I don't see any real evidence to substantiate the claim, but its possible that MS has more momentum in other countries than in the US. I'm curious what the real numbers will be. I for one don't think preorders are a good judge on how a product will do overall.....it definitely helps early on, but once the avid fans quiet down the products will need to stand on their own to pull in the neutrals like me. Either way I bet both companies make a killing at release.

It pisses me off to no end that they allow people to rate the system before it even launches.

Amazon has the same thing. Kind of stupid but easy enough to ignore.

I think it's more sad that Gamestop has to plaster this on the first page of their weekly ad. People still don't know that Kinect isn't required and all that? Geeze...and they call themselves gamers?

The original Nintendo required the user to buy the power pad and light gun....I don't remember anyone complaining then. I'm not defending MS but I can understand their decision. It's purely marketing. They are doing it for their developers. If everyone has a Kinect, even if unused, then third party software developers can feel better of developing for the Kinect should they choose to. My guess is that MS has already given major financial incentives for some developers to develop for Kinect under the assumption that it was going to be hooked up for every unit. If they pulled it from the box it would be hugely problematic. At least with the way it works now, if the developers make a good enough Kinect game then you could be convinced to use it.

I don't have any facts to back this up, but if I were Microsoft that's exactly how I would have played it, "IF" I were originally expecting the Kinect to be mandatory.

My point is that it's never as straight forward as people think. That $100 won't have any affect on day one sales, but it may affect day 30 and day 60 sales. By then I think we will all have a more complete idea as to whether the Xbox One (or the PS4) will have the value that either company claims will be there.

The original Nintendo did not include the Power Pad as that accessory came out years later. The bundle was originally the light gun and the robot and came with Duckhunt, SMB and some gyro game. I remember my parents returning it for the console and we picked up the gun separately since R.O.B. was a gimmick and not worth having.

It pisses me off to no end that they allow people to rate the system before it even launches.

What pisses me off the most is they let people who haven't even purchased the items rate and give reviews. If you want give a NewEgg or Amazon review, you have to buy it from that site. Otherwise, you're a shill or troll in my opinion. Not that I even read the reviews from sites. They are generally by mongoloids anyway.

I don't think anyone was expecting $400 from Sony and they double the RAM nearly last minute as well I've heard.

Sony needed to pull out of the gate aggressively this time, since the PS3 had such an anemic start and took forever to catch up.

A lot of people got turned off by Kinect because of all those rumours that it was always on, spying on you. The fact that Microsoft was talking to advertisers about using it to measure response to commercials didn't help. Allowing you to unplug it was a peace offering to those who freaked out. The fact that it does come in as a pack in will ensure more games will get developed for it. I think Microsoft really wants to take motion control seriously this go around. Which could be quite interesting. The problem right now is there's very little to justify it as a mandatory item. There's six confirmed Kinect games, only four will be available at launch. There's really nothing we haven't seen before in there.

Early rumors said PS4 would be $500 as well. I'm not convinced you are paying for it but getting the PS4 at a steal and Sony is eating big bucks.

I read the rumors. Once they released the price of the PS4, I was sold.

You are paying for the Kinect. It is figured into the price of the console package. Whether it is $40 or $100, the price is there. Since Sony is selling their console for $400 and Microsoft is selling theirs for $500 with the major difference to the average consumer being a big Kinect bar.

The Kinect costs $100 at Best Buy and comes with a game.

My PS3 cost me $500 from Sears. I found a backwards compatible PS3 and bought it.

And you know for a fact that Sony isn't just eating the extra $100?

Perception is key.

Exactly.

The PS4 is $400 and comes with a controller. The Xbox one is $500 and comes with a controller as well as a Kinect.

Therefore, to the consumer, the Kinect is costing $100. The current price of the Kinect is $100 for the Xbox 360.

The new kinect costs more to build.

That's not even the original point I was making. I was saying that people interested in these new systems need to know the facts about them and people who still believe the spycam nonsense at this point must just be oblivious to gaming
