Xbox on computer?

What would I need to be able to play my xbox on my computer? Tv tuner? Adapters?
I'm looking for anything less than $50. What do you guys think is best?

VIVO would work, you'd also probably need external speakers for audio. Or if they make component cables for the Xbox, which they most likely do, you can hook it up that way to a DVI-Component adapter for Radeons or a 6600GT like cable. Depends on the card.

Are you sure you can use that compnet to DVI adaptor for that purpose. I have looked into it and never found any info that says that will work. All I ever found was that I need a signal converter to get it to work.
 
My TV is insn't anywhere close to my xbox, so I really can't use that as a source for video. I'm probably going to go for a TV tuner, since it's the easiest option.

What monitor are you going to be using for this?
 
Get a cheap TV tuner card with composite input. (any of them have this, i suggest hauppauge wintv go, i used to use it for my N64)

then get a converter from radioshack to convert the yellow/white plugs to a stereo plug and input it into your soundcards line-in. works good.

otherwise the best way is if you use a LCD that has dual inputs like the dell 20 and 24inch models, you get s-video input or component input.. still have to do audio the way i said tho for my first example.
the LCD way, you can play in PIP mode over a fullscreen game. and it also affects performance 0%.

with the tuner, you can do it in a window or fullscreen, but cant overlay a fullscreen program. also it affects performance of course.

i did the tv tuner example in my early college years about 4 years ago. getting yourself a 20inch 2005fpw lcd will be a big favor to yourself though, it has s-video input and composite.. a lcd is nice anyway.

if you are against that, get a $30 hauppauge win-tv go.

ps. i used a ati tv wonder back in the day, just do yoruself a favor and get the hauppauge.
if you dont believe me i can lead you to my posts on rage3d trying to figure out all their software issues (which they eventually just DROPPED support)

get a hauppage. :thumbsup:

I just assumed it would work, if there's any reason it wouldn't I don't know it.

I got an External GE tv tuner for my monitor with VGA passthrough.
I can switch between Computer, TV Tuner, and SVIDEO input. With sound that gets outputted to the computer speakers.

The plus side about using an external like this is that you dont need your PC on to still play the X-box or watch TV.

Stragely they look really good. I think its because monitors generally have higher quality tubes than tv.

You'd be surprised. But I noticed major quality differences going from the ati tv wonder to the hauppauge win-tv go myself.

Theres going to be major variances in quality between all the brands. There are better hardware cards than the hauppauge out there, but hauppauge has integrated deinterlacing (the best algorithms available, dscaler's) and since thats their core business they do a good job of keeping things current and support is VERY long lasting.

they dont drop support on their products, even my ancient wintv go.

Well that's just it, the monitor is higher resolution which is why I think it will look like crap. Certainly non digital TV looks like crap on a PC. There's not enough information to up the resolution to make it look any good.... at least from what I've seen.

AFAIK all XBox games support at least 480p, same res as DVDs. Some of them go as high as 1080i which should actually look quite nice on a monitor.
