XBOX now @ 179.99..

$20 pricedrop?! Lame.

Nintendo better not be the normal tightwads they are, and drop their price at least $20 also though.

I got an X-Box last December. I've spent many thousands on computers and a couple hundred bucks on this thing. Serious score. Halo sealed the deal.

I plan to get a PS2 soon but there are only so many hours in the day I can spend playing games. Maybe if I hit that lottry! 😀

For those who dont own one, its better then no drop at all.

So besides Halo at $50 (so it's really $230 to start), what makes buying an Xbox worthwhile (for solo and online play) if you already have a decent gaming PC?

I'm serious, not trolling -- if like me you have a PC and DVD player, and can get most of last year's great PC games for $20 plus older ones for even less, what 3 games (including Halo) make spending $330 to play just 3 games worth the money? (Or $380 to play 4 games if you want.)

you got no excuse to not have one now.

I can think of many not to own one.

go check out the Halo 2 video and you will have your reason.

Man, gimme a break. Halo2 is not that great. you guys fail to realize that the only reason why they're making another one is because you suckers paid big-time for a downgraded "used-to-be-PC" game in the first place.

You have obviously never played Halo.

I spent several thousands getting my system buff enought to play Quake2 and Quake3. Halo was a relative bargain in addition to being the coolest shooter I ever played.

Plus there are a lot of other cool games for the x-box but honestly Halo is enough if you are a gamer.

Go play tetris on your mom's computer if you can't afford $179 for an x-box.

I haven't played much of the Halo single player campaign, but the multi-player is really awesome. If Halo 2 offers Live multiplayer support I'll probably pick up an XBox with both Halo games. I will say that everything else aside, Microsoft did really well introducing XBox Live. It is a great concept and a great service. As more and more games start to support Live, I think the idea will really catch on.

Ryan, Halo2 is going to be a LIVE supported game!

I can't wait to play it online. 🙂

That is what I understand. I want to see it in action before I buy in though.

Since you are serious, I'll give you a serious opinion...

I'd rather play in my living room in front of my TV, than hunched over in front of my 19" monitor.
5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. I've yet to hear a PC game that measures up to the majority of Xbox games.
Sports games, racing games, fighting games... I love them, and the PC can't give me the quality (or quantity) that the Xbox can.
There's really nothing on the PC that keeps my interest right now. (This, of course, is just imho.)

I think that Doom 3 is about the only PC game that I am really looking forward to this year. Maybe Deus Ex 2 and Half Life 2. But on the Xbox, I'm looking forward to Brute Force, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Doom 3, NHL2k4, Madden2004, NFL2k4, Project Gothem Racing 2, MotoGP 2, Midtown Madness 3, etc

Btw, your last paragraph wasn't comparing apples to apples. You can also buy "last year's great" Xbox games for ~$20. ESPECIALLY if you shop for used.

Good answer, Wingz. I guess it's really about the kind of games you want to play and where you want to play them. I'm not a big fan of racing and sports games so it doesn't sound like I'd get much out of an XBox besides Halo.

PS2 just dropped to $179.00 as well. I think the one with the internal network connector will be $200.00 though.
