XBOX (not 360) and HDTV

I just bought HDTV cables for my XBOX they don't work at all, the TV recognizes that I have HD cable plugged in (it gives me the option to switch to component 2/3) and the xbox recognizes the cables are plugged in (the light on the xbox flashes orange/green when it's unplugged) but I get not picture.

Help would be appreciated.

Did you try the power button?

Looking at the cables, make sure you have the red video cable in to red video, and not the red audio cable into the video.

Yeah I did double check that.

Possible bad cable? 1.25$ seems pretty cheap. Maybe head to a store and pick up a retail one, try it and if that works then you know. You can always return the retail cable if it ends up not working.

Hmm there also might be a setting on the Xbox to tell it what type of video you want it to output. Plug it back into composite and check the settings.

No real options besides widescreen with the normal cables and nothing with composite.

Yeah looks like I'll be heading to the store and have to buy the real thing from microsoft.

could the cables be labeled wrong? i've seen that before with cheap cables. try mixing em around.

Orange Greens means a fault with the video cable, or no video cable connected. Might be a bum cable.

That's what you get for buying 3rd party cheapy crap.

Go into the dashboard and enable 480p/720p/1080i, although my XBOX displayed video (albeit 480i) over component before I enabled those. Get the MS cable.

Yeah it was orange/green till I plugged the new cable in but still on picture, so the Xbox recognizes the cable but still no output.

I went to the dashboard with normal cables and it had 3 options normal, widescreen and letterbox, so I left that alone. Now when I plug in the HD cables into the xbox and tv I should still get a normal signal/picture till I enable HD... right?

In other words, I can't enable HD with regular cables but I should still get a signal (non-HD) with HD cables until I enable the HD option.

Can I do that with regular cables?
I didn't see that option (with normal cables), all I get in video is "normal, widescreen, letterbox" or am I looking for a different setting?

MS cables are totally different they have a converter box that the Optical/SVideo/Componant video plug into before going to the TV..

i have a set works great use optical for sound for true DD 5.1

I'd go buy the genuine article. It's probably just splitting the S-Video signal into YPbPr, which is still 480i. Also, if you've got multiple sets of component inputs on your TV, remember that some sets only have one set of 480p+ inputs and the others are just there for show.

Prob just a faulty cable. I'd just go pickup a real cable from the store. I did for my buddy's tv - just pretty much plug and play.
