aphex, what did you do with the real rh71?!

if you want live, go modchip if not go TSOP. Best option for a noob would be to get someone to do it for you, $20-$30 should do it.

huh?

*update*... well it's done... $75 later (I gave it to the dude at 1 and I got it back at 5 - how's that for service?), I have XBMC as my dash and I can see my network shares... I can't believe this thing plays all kinds of formats... including rmvb 😕 Better than getting a wireless media player set-top for ~$150.

Thx anyway to those who suggested softmodding.

*update*

two nights of screwing around.....and eventually i figured out how to soft mod my xbox using a $8 copy of splintercell and a homemade usb cable plus a mini cruzer usb drive.

I had preferred soft modding because i didnt want to open up the case, and i wanted to be as cheap as possible.

wow..it was a learning experience. Im running evox and xbmc and Im having a blast.
thanks for the support of ATOT and various threads at xbox-scene forums.

*NEW* can someone tell me where to get linksboks binary for install ? All I can find is the source code which I'd need to compile (and don't want to do)...

Just want to be able to do a little light web surfing from the living room...

$75 bucks sounds like a pretty decent deal for getting a 2.6 installed locally, that's about how much i charge. Honestly for the cost and hassle of doing a softmod, getting mechassault/007, the Action Replay or the adapter for the flash drive, you may as well pay to have a chip installed.

Actually I think the softmod was quite easy and didn't require shelling out the money for a game and Action Replay. I used the hotswap method.
