Xbox live Trouble?

So I just hooked up my 360 to live and tried to register a new account, I get all the way to the end where it says "creating account, please do not turn off or remove HD..etc." About a minute into creating the account I get a message saying "This operation can not be performed right now, please try again later or go to..."

I tried several times but keep getting the same message. When I try to trouble shoot and check the connection everything seems to be fine.

Any ideas? Thanks.

p.s. I am using a belkin wireless game router to get the signal, I tried going directly into my router and got the same message.
 
I did some more trouble shooting and now I am getting a DNS failed error. I set it to manual and entered my IP address but its still failing.

Any ideas?
