Xbox live is really, really scary.

When I played Live 50% of the time it was like you described (and as many others have described), 25% of the time it was ok, and the last 25% was pretty awesome. In contrast have you ever run into one of those 12 year olds that are completely calm and are actually very good at the game?

The one time I did was in BF2:SF it was so strange since I was used to the stupid make believe cussing rule making brats. It's actually creepy and cool at the same time. It's hilarious to watch them own other people though and have the adults be the little brats in reverse.

A few days ago I was playing GOW on live and there was some irritating kid on the server whining about how frag tags and chainsaws and whatever other way he was killed were cheap and that they shouldn't be allowed in the game. Meanwhile he was dead last on the server, with maybe 1 or 2 kills when the rest of us had closer to 10.

I've had Xbox Live since it first came out on the original Xbox. The first couple of years I really enjoyed it, met a lot of cool people and had very few bad encounters. Stopped playing on Live for like 2 years cause of WoW and when the 360 launched tried it out again. Well, lets just say I don't care for Live at all anymore. Honestly on an anounmous level I prefer simple text chat and like it just more in general (I can read slang typed but half the time I can't understand it when some kid is speaking it). Voice has its place and from my experience with games its either good when used with friends or used for competition level gaming, casual gaming like most of Live its horrid.

Then I got Halo 2, I found were all the kids went.

I agree man. I have met the nicest people on Burnout Revenge and have ran into a bunch of chicks playing that game as well.

btw ... people that play CS are not THIS bad...maybe thats because I ban them the second they are... *SHRUG*

Thats why CS isnt usually that bad, after getting banned 5 times in a row people learn that if they misbehave too bad they get banned.

Xbox live is a snakepit because there are no clans running the servers and no moderation. I'm not holding my breath for Microsoft to actually provide any moderation either that would actually cost a little money.

I believe it is 2 reasons.

1. People like to talk tough when they can hide behind a screen and nobody will ever see them.

2. Kids nowadays have very little respect for other people or basically anything other than themselves.

I've run into the 12 year old on BF2 that is very good-most of the time a 2nd L or 3 star-I thought he may be playing on his father's account or something-but a 'cool cat under fire' isn't something you just make manifest without fire time.

Still haven't purchased another 360 since the demise of the first one.

That's why they make friends lists. I've got enough people on my list that believe in teamwork and seem mature, so that almost every time I log in, I get 3-4 invites to join games. I've made a heck of a lot of friends on live that I play with regularly.
It has been VERY rare that I have run into any kids following this method, and when I do, I give them bad feedback and just go somewhere else.

I have more of a problem on Live with people who DON'T talk and have no teamwork whatsoever.

I don't run into that stuff playing CS:Source.

Maybe it's just the server I play in. People there are generally pretty nice and abide by the "dude it's just a game" rule.

I think it comes down to parents and communities. Parents expect the school and government to keep tabs on kids. It seems a like a self reassured excuse to pass on instilling good values for them. Parents also get indignant when their kids are called out by other people in the community. I used to get called out all the time for the crap I pulled. Try that today and you get a face full of crap from some pathetic parents.

I think the internet just reflects what people would act like in the world would when the thin veil of civilization gets lifted off society. Think natural disasters like Katrina.

Ah well, better for them on the other side of the pipe.
