I am getting a new xbox 360 elite and I wanted to know if I can recovery all my stuff from my sisters xbox 360? like my gamertag and my points and my stuff that I bought? I cant switch the hdds bc she has the non hdmi one and I do rite? so there would be an issue there huh?

You can easily switch the hard drives just fine between HDMI & non-HDMI versions. Of course, is it really desirable to do so? Does your sister have an XBL profile & saved games on her current console? If so, you'd have the same problem only in reverse.

You can easily recover your gamertag on your new console using the "Recover Gamertag" option when you go to sign in on the new machine. Your points and downloads are associated with your Gamertag, so the points will be wherever the Gamertag resides and you will also be able to re-download the DLC you've already bought for free onto any system your Gamertag resides. The re-downloaded content can only be accessed while your Gamertag is signed in, so it will only be usable to you.

The only thing that may be sticky are any saved games, you may need a memory card ($20 for the cheap one) to pull them from one console to another.

What about themes and gamer pictures that I bought can I pull those to?

Yes. All DLC that you've paid for under your Gamertag, including themes and gamer pictures, can be re-downloaded for free on whatever system your Gamertag currently resides.

Oh ok and do I have to buy a seperate memory card or can I use a usb sitck?

I believe you'll have to get the Xbox 360 Memory Unit Amazon Link. There are 64MB (~$20) and 512MB (~$50) versions. If you're only planning on transferring your Gamertag and saved games, the 64MB one should be fine. Unfortunately, I don't believe you can use USB memory sticks or other methods to move saved games/Gamertags around, but I'd wait a bit and someone is sure to pop in this thread that is 100% sure.

doesn't it come with a cable that will copy all your 20gig content to th 120gig ?

I have a launch day Elite, and unless MS changed things (that was in April, so it's possible), the console does not come with the cable. The 120GB hard drive packaged and bought separately DOES come with the cable you're talking about.

Regardless, I think that cable copies anything and everything from the 20GB to the 120GB, so he would have an issue with it arbitrarily transferring all of his sister's data, as well.

Can I select which saves I wanna move though like keep her games there and then only move mine? Also what if she trys to login with my gamertag? And I wanna remove my credit card from the account screen so they dont auto enroll my membershit how do I do that?

My understanding is that the transfer using the cable is all or nothing. You can't selective move stuff over to the 120GB with the transfer cable. You can selectively move over stuff with a memory card though.

She won't be able to login in anyways once you do a recovery of your gamertag on another console. However, once you transfer your gamertag to your new 360, delete it off your sister's console.

You can go to Xbox.com and sign in there and take care of your credit card information.

I copies everything from the old drive, replicates it to the new drive, then formats the old drive. You will lose all data on the old drive using the 120GB HDD kit.

Technically the Elites do, and always have come with the cable, but you have to fill out a form on Xbox.com with your elite S/N, and the S/N off the other 360 and then wait for MS to mail it to you.

EDIT: Linky

With a memory card you can copy or move, but with the HDD transfer cable it deletes everything on the 120, moves all from the 20, then wipes the 20.

Mine didn't come with one. I bought mine right after christmas.

Ok I bought the new elite. What I want to do with my older xbox that is my sisters is just copy everything I need off it and then format it and give her a new gamertag and stuff. My question is can I do this. I want to copy all the saves and stuff like that and move the ones that are mine onto my elite and then move the ones that are hers back onto her xbox after I am done formating it will this work.

Are you using the transfer cable?

Well, you can move all the saves back and forth however you like. However, her saves are tied to her gamertag. If you delete her gamertag and giver her a new one, she effectively loses her saves.

You're probably better off just copying everything tied to your gamertag and leaving all of her stuff on the older 360.

Not without her using your gamertag.

It sounds like you are going to have to create a new gamertag for her and she is just going to have to start from scratch.

Sorry.

Actually I have a potentially stupid question now - If you recover a gamertag, does that get saves also?

I only ask because it takes forever to recover the thing, so it would make sense if they stored your saves as well.

Also, on even more of a tangent - if you recover a gamertag on a console that already has a gold account, and sign in to both accounts, can you access the downloaded content for both? For example - in Rock Band, if the drummer is 1 account and the guitarist is another, with both having different downloaded songs, can you play the combined DLC or neither or what?
