I have noticed that all the instructions I have seen for modding the xbox
with a larger hard drive require:

a) A brand new hard drive
b) ata 100

I have a wd ata 66 20 gig out of a dead computer, can I reformat it and use
it in my xbox with a mod chip.

Must I use a specific hard drive?

Must it be new, or can i prepare a used drive?

Thanks and God bless,

Jeff

used is fine. any size will do and I'm sure the ata66 will work. You will fill up that drive awfully quick though. You want at least an 80 gig drive to get much use out of it. You will use up like 5 gigs just from system files.

Thanks for the advice,

I want to try the 20 gig because I have one, I got the xbox minus hard drive on liquidation for 10 dollars.

I figure I can dump 40-50 for a chip and not be out to much if everything works.

Which version xbox do you have? 20 GB is FINE. Just don't rip all your games to the hdd. Most games SUCK for the xbox, and you'll find yourself using it for emulation and media viewing on bigscreen without jacking off your computer to get it to do tv-out. I got a matrix if you want one, but it's for v1.0.

With a 20 gig drive your going to fit about 3 games on it. Not including any media files. Nice price for that unit. Hope it works good.

I'm pretty sure the xbox only uses ata33, so just about any harddrive should work. You will have to use specific harddrives if you want to lock it, which means to play with the mod chip off. It shouldn't be too hard to find info about that.

You jack off your computer often?
