Xbox Hardware Problem

I've had my Xbox since Day 1 so I know it could just be old age. But it was working perfectly up until a couple of days ago. Now when I play a DVD, any DVD, the color gets all dark. Sometimes it will flick back to normal but mostly it is really dark. But when I play games, it is perfect. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks

-Phil

The only obvious suggestion I have, is to buy a replacement DVD drive off eBay for about $25.

for the record ... Gamecube sucks 😛. I have had 2 and sold them both cause it sucks 😛...

anyways. do you have your xbox hooked up differently now? do you have it hooked through a VCR? because what you are saying sounds ALOT like macrovision, and i believe xbox has that. what it does, is if you hook your xbox (or any dvd player for that matter) through your VCR, it distorts the picture on purpose so that you cannot make VHS copies of the movie. so thats the only thing I can think of.

is that how you have your xbox hooked up?

Yeah it is hooked up through a VCR now. But we've watched a movie through the VCR before with no problems, but only once.

yup it's macrovision. you need to plug in straight to TV.

Mines acting funny too..
will only play certain DVDs...

I bought the new SW Trilogy set and only empire will play in the xbox...

SW gets to a point and freezes every time and jedi just wont even recognize as a DVD...
tried in CPU and regular dvd player they work fine..
Fzcking xbox..

But I'm at college now and we are using an old tv without the color inputs.

Have you tested it on anyone else's TV to make sure it's not the set or the cable? I'd take it to your neighbor or something and plug it in there and do some testing to see what might be the problem. COuld be the DVD Drive, the cabling, the TV, etc.

I've seen issues with playing DVD's before. It usually plays more than it doesn't though.

also a known military acronym for ComPUter... = CPU shorthand for computer in military speak..
LONG before you guys even had PCs...

you need to buy a video modulator. Thye sell them at Radioshack, Bestbuy, even Blockbuster. I got one for my old TV at home, which has a 4 way selector for $30 @ Blockbuster.
