XBox GPU detailed specs unleashed at GameSpot

Calling NV2A slow?

Is that why a handful or two of first generation games on Xbox have better graphics than ANY, Nintendo game shown?

Several publications have stated that several Xbox games have better graphics when compared to PS2 second generation games, and GC first generation games(we all know on the GC different generations will have very minor differences, I believe it was stated that games on GC are already using 90% of the power flipper can provide, maybe I read wrong though). While they have also stated, as well as comments from Nintendo, saying that most games on all three next generation consoles have about the same graphics.

So there ARE already games for Xbox that look better, and over time, other titles will look even better.

I think I know what you are talking about and I think you read it wrong. There is an article out there some where that says the Flipper is 90-95% efficient.

Also this was actually reported awhile back(several months ago), the fillrate is with 4x AA(supposedly).

Also it seems Square and MS are STILL in negotiations for Square to develop for Xbox. Thats good news, maybe they will get a deal soon, after all they have been talking about it for two years 🙁

And FFXI will require monthly fees, just like all other MMOG's.

This is not a hack on the Gamecube believe me, but the video's I've seen of it don't compare to the good Xbox stuff I've seen. They (Nintendo) use crappy textures (solid colors, whee) and the backgrounds look crummy. It seems the GC has to use all of it's power to just keep up in the poly dept. compared to Xbox, which seems to be strutting everything.

I will get a Gamecube for my daughter, but I will be playing on the adults toy, Xbox.

Hell yeah!! Nintendo was good for it's time. They even are aware that it's not as good as the Xbox hence why the new Nintendo box is cheaper than both the Xbox and PS2.

If you hate Microsoft, that's fine, but respect the power of their hardware--the Xbox is one fine machine. Wait until you see some at your local stores, F(*# around with it and you'll probably shut the hell up.

I'm not getting involved in this discussion uintil all next gen consoles are released but I feel I should say the GC is cheaper because it lacks many of the extra "features" of the PS2 and XBox such as the ability to play DVD's. Unlike it's competitior's Nintendo's system is purely a gaming machine.

I am glad that Nintendo is doing this too. I think all consoles should focus on the games and not the ability to "IT PLAYS DVDs TOO!" Don't get me wrong some of my friends use their PS2s for DVDs cause they dont have another DVD player in the house. But for many people that already have DVDs on their TV/Computer, the ability for these consoles to play DVDs is a waste in my opinion.

Yeah I agree NFS4, the GameCube (little purple square box) and it's controllers just reaks of "I'm a kiddie playing games". Nothing wrong with that, as the kids should play games also, it's just not for me. Mario, Mario Kart, Pokiemon and all that stuff? I don't think so Tim. Not with me behind the controller!

Give me a badass hardcore gaming system made for adults... oh yeah, Xbox, that's right. 🙂

teehee

In reality, the added cost of a DVD player on a console is almost nil...

For one, the Xbox uses more RAM than any other console, as well as having a built in NIC and HDD, that may or may not be the $100 difference but its close. Does the GC have a built in NIC or HDD? Nope.

The Xbox has more features, thus its more expensive. I doubt Rouge II will get best of show, there were several PC games that I can think of that beat it, but of course, E3 is always about the consoles and not the PC(ie: more money spent on consoles etc).

Hehe Mariokart
How cute...I remember when that game was fun.

I'll take GT3 thanks 😀

The XBox isn't that underpowered. A 733Mhz P3 with a slightly souped up GF3....since it's optimized for gaming, and won't be running anything in the back ground that should be enough.

The XBox is going to be a great system, but dont underestimate the Gamecube.
Sure it might look like a system for kids, but there are still tons of loyal Nintendo followers out there.

Plus being a hundred bucks less at launch, a lot more Gamecubes will be under the Christmas tree this year instead of the XBox.

I really do think that the Gamecube fad will die down shortly after next year. The Xbox will start demonstrating it's graphical prowess while the Gamecube is said to be operating at 90-95% efficiency... not much room for improvement. If the Xbox already beats the GC with rumoured 50% efficiency, it won't be long before the Xbox starts handing the GC it's boodie on a platter.

I am honestly not impressed at all from anything I've seen on the GC. The textures just plain suck, and I won't even get into the backgrounds, or lack thereof. Meanwhile, the Xbox is strutting HUGE outdoor inviroments where tons of stuff is going on, all with awesome textures.

Real-time DD5.1 will be interesting. Wonder if they'll release an algorithm for DTS? When will PC games be able to play in DD5.1?

I'm wearing my flame suit.

Seems to me a lot of you are buying the console for the hardware itself, as opposed to buying it for the games you will get to play?

I'm probably missing something, but I've had lots of fun with the Mario series and if you grew up with those games I'm sure you're missing them too.

Efficientcy does not mean load. The Xbox will never be that efficient, it might get up to 80%. Right now the GC is no where near a fully load on the CPU or Flipper.

Backgrounds look like crap my ass. If you look closely in SSB2 every thing in the background is fully rendered in 3d. Nothing comes close to RS2.

Have you even seen the GC E3 Vids?

As for DVD playback, wait 5 months and get the Panasonic GC/DVD player. It should cost around the same price as the Xbox, has a silver metalic finish, DD and DTS decoding, and an LCD screen. 😉

Seen them al, and they DO suck by comparison. The fact is the GC is already tapped, the Xbox just_now are getting out the real dev kits. Realizing this, and also realizing the Xbox looks better already, things aren't looking good for the GC to score the hardcore gamers, and the adult gamers already have their noses up, including me.

I just dont think that because the XBox has better hardware that it will destroy the GC or even the PS2 on just that fact.
Sure Halo, Dead or Alive 3, etc... are all great titles, but there are still several other great titles coming out on other systems.

I dont think that people are going to be looking at the consoles processor, ram, harddrive, etc... when buying these consoles. Sure "we" as hardware guys who are always looking at specs on computer hardware, etc... are going to look at this, but I think as a whole people are going to be looking more at the games for the systems.

And Mario and Zelda are a lot more noticable than a "guy with a big gun" 😀

Dont get me wrong and think that I am bashing the Xbox and or other consoles. I for one actually plan on getting both the XBox and Gamecube. The thing that draws me to the Gamecube though is the many familiar games coming out. I am really looking forward to a new Zelda and Metroid game.
