That sucks, highly unlikely they will give you a return....all the more reason for clear packaging.....at least part of it clear so you can see the disc at least..

the bigger question is why, after your previous experiences, would you not doublecheck all your purchases before leaving the store, or at least the parking lot.

shens.

I guess for the same reason I still post stuff here expecting people to actually sympathize with my plight rather than calling me a liar and telling me stuff I already know.

You will have to fill us in.
Edit: Could have been worse.. could have been a Xbox 360 console with just some wood in its place! 🙂

He was at Target, not Best Buy.

Me thinks the OP is farked.

So I go into Target today to buy DOA4 for XBOX 360. The guy gets it out of the case, I pay, I walk out of the store, I go home. I get home (45 minutes away), take the game out of the bag, take off the outer plastic wrap (100% intact), remove the Microsoft security seal (100% intact) and open the case, expecting of course to find the game DVD. Instead, what is in there? Nothing. Nada. Zip. Even the manual is gone. In its place is about 30 pages torn from a paperback book. Someone went to a lot of trouble to steal this game (I'd love to know how they got the security seal back on there). So now, I get the joy of taking it back to the store tomorrow, where I will be accused of trying to scam the store. If I'm lucky they will take it back. This isn't the first time this has happened to me at Target, either. I once bought a DVD there, took it home, still sealed, etc., and bam...no disc. Took it back, and 45 minutes and three managers later, they allowed me to get another copy. And that was for a $10 DVD. I can only imagine what it's going to be like for a $60 game.

I wouldn't believe you to be honest vetteguy.

why not? are you just being a dick or have you caught him lying in the past?

Open for now on in front of a Target employee.

It's funny-when it happened with the DVD, when I got the replacement I told the employee I wanted to make sure it had a disc in there before I bought it. She said "you can't open it before you buy it". I told her I wasn't going to buy it if there wasn't a disc in like there hadn't been the last time. Again, she called over the manager, and they said I could open it first, and guess what? No DVD AGAIN! They had to open FOUR DVDs before they found one with a disc actually inside. From now on I am opening ANYTHING like this (DVD, CD, game, etc.) in front of the employee at the counter.

hopefully the same managers are there and remember this experience...as all will go alittle bit more smoothly if they do

It might have been done at the factory, especially with the 'seal' still in tact.

After reading a number of these stories, I open expensive stuff at the store before I leave. [I haven't bought any $60 games though, so I'm not sure I would have for that...]

Anyway, I would call corporate first, both for the software manufacturer and target, maybe on a 3way call. If they didn't help, I'd call the police.

Good Luck.

It's simply crafty employee theft. Anyone who's worked in retail can tell you a lot of crazy stories that go on behind the scenes, especially at stores that treat employees like crap to begin with.

That and a hair blow dryer can open the seals if you are carefull. The over rapping most stores have machines to put new rapping back on.

But yep he will have to fight to get his game. If you were a manager would you believe it, probable not.

you can't re-rap the seal the wraps the edges. That stuff is only at the factory unless you make some on your own and bring it in with barcodes printed on it for specific items. At that point you might as well just pay for the damn thing.

I go to the returns desk ( or service desk) and open all my purchases before I leave the store , and I make a point to tell the clerk what i am doing and why . I dont want a box of wood or a box full of torn paper . Online buys would blow if I was to get ripped that way .

Shrink wrapping is easily done with a hair-dryer. There is also a product on "as seen on tv" that lets you seal edges. Just put 2 & 2 together (I haven't actually tried nor am I condoning it) and you'll fool most people.

It's sad when we have to open up sealed merchandise at stores to keep from getting scammed... reminds me of the Best Buy thing not too many months ago.

I had a friend that worked at a store that had a shrinkwrapping machine.
He pulled that scam on Wal-mart a few times

Update-Went to Target at lunch, took it to the counter and explained what happened. The girl who was waiting on me started to question me, but the one who was working with her said she has seen this happen before, so they agreed to exchange it for me. Before I left they opened it and we verified the disc was inside.

Hmm, that went rather easily. I wonder if 'Target Employee #2' is the one ripping off the games and doesn't want to get caught.

it's easy to put that foil seal back on the xbox package. I've done this when selling games on ebay. Thing is though, some games don't even come with the foil to begin with.

I doubt it...she did not seem like the type to care about XBOX games, but I suppose anything's possible.
