Simply as I can put it... I'd like to be able to pop retail XBox disks into my DVD-ROM and play them... Can anyone tell me if this is possible? If it's of any help... I don't remember the model, but my DVD/CD-R/RW Drive is by Pioneer... Thanks!

Not everyone feels that $150 is affordable, especially when you've already got the same or better hardware in your PC.

I don't think regular old PC CD-ROM drives are able to read XBox discs.
He did specify that it's a DVD-ROM drive, and AFAIK, XBox games are on plain old DVDs.

Any computer geek who will spend $50 on the game and fvcking $400 for a 6800GT will surely think $150 is cheap. The real reason people won't spend $150 is b/c they have an innate hate for the XBox, thinking they're paying for a mini-PC that plays just games.

99% of DVD-ROM drives are not capable of reading XBox game discs. (Certain ones are, like a few Samsungs)

Hey, I'm just trying to sift through the less helpful answers and see if anyone knows anything.
Do they just have a jacked up TOC or what? I thought they were just DVDs.

there was a group who made an emulator. It wasn't that good, and they still had a long way to go. But they did it. They said it only worked on windows 3.1....

lol, i'll try to find the link

there kinda like the ol dreamcast disks...they have a special ring o data thats only readable to the xbox and select DVD players...
on top of that the games are SPECIFICALLY programmed for the proprietary hardware in the XBOX. Its not just "Some PC", its optimzed and configured such that the games are compiled to run SPECIFICALLY on the XBOX.
Now the interesting thing is the xbox dev kit runs off a normal PC. You can develop and play on the pc and adapt certain code to the pc. Can you burn TRUE xbox games with your comp? chances are nope...but could you play them??? well all signs point to yes...but how? ;)
I say its possible its just nothings out there yet cause the EULA with microsoft for the dev kit is so ironclad that if u were to develope an emulator from it you'd be reemed by their attorney's. They seem to only want to give dev kits out to certain countries and companies too...ones that are sympathetic to microsoft. The Xbox is probobly one of microsofts most closely held devices as i have ever seen.
I say just splurge and buy an xbox, if anything you have a game center and entertainment center all in one. And on top of that you get decent controllers as opposed to trying to configure some controller to work on the pc....

Most DVD-Rom drives won't be able to read them, since Xbox discs are read from outside in, rather than inside out, like standard rom discs, thus requiring appropriate proprietary hardware.

Interesting... keep the info coming, it's terribly fascinating...

I do actually have an XBox already, so it's not the lack of funds (I am one such "computer geek who will spend $50 on the game and fvcking $400 for a 6800GT").

P.S. The 6800GT should be here Wednesday... heh... silly Newegg, I overnighted it on Saturday...

That's what I meant - work was distracting me too much as I typed. Stupid work.

I call BS on that one. If that was the only issue then it would be simple to overcome. Read it normal and flip bits.

Not to mention that the xbox reads regular dvds and cds.

The older the system, the better it is emulated (generally). The current generation's emulation is almost non-existent. I've had trouble getting N64 emus working correctly on my PC (may be better on Nvidia cards). PSX I don't have experience with but I think is better than N64, but the generation before that is very well emulated.

xbox are basically computers the have long been obsolete. pentium 2 with geforce 2 graphics, i believe

microsoft has gone out of its way to make sure that no one can so much as design a mouse and keyboard for an xbox... i dont think they'd let anyone get away with playing the games on their PC in any legal manner

it's very easy to splice a keyboard into an xbox controller cable.
