Whoa, just read that it might be true. I had always thought that Xbox sales were small compared to the PS2.

"Sony's PS2 installed base is about five times bigger than Xbox. In the US, however, the tide may have turned, with Microsoft outselling Sony for about the past six months, according to Goldman."

PS3 vs Xbox 360 (or whatever) will be very interesting. I know I will buy only one, and am open to be swayed either way.

i buy whatever one gets me PC functionality and homebrew software like XBOX

i use the XBOX so much more because of XBMC, and the fact I can store games in HDD, reduced loading times (which is my #1 pet peeve, go back to an SNES game, where's the loading time? none!). but you cant deny that PS2 has the upper hand with the deals on the GTA/MGS series, and Gran Turismo.

Side note: In Japan, 112 Xboxes were sold from 4/18-4/24

...I'll let someone else list other consoles :)

I always wait until the initial bugs are fixed and the first price reduction hits. My PS2 and PC are good enough to play any new games coming out.

Anybody have any idea how much of a loss Microsoft is taking on the Xbox 360?

I'm curious because I'm not sure if I will be able to buy a triple-core CPU, and a Radeon R500 video card, for under $300 by November.

That's why they are going with a smaller form factor for both the console and the controller (+ wireless). They're also lining up Japanese developers to get games out ASAP.

No word yet since final specs and prices haven't been announced. We'll get an idea after tonight.

doesn't anyone feel sort of weird about a new game system coming out so soon? It was a little different when the PS2 first came out. By that time, it really felt like the limits on the hardware for the N64 and PS1 had been reached, and it almost felt like the PS2 was long overdue. With the xbox 360 coming out as early as fall, we have a much different situation here. There is plenty of juice left on these systems and there's no urgency in me at all to upgrade to the next console system the way I felt urged to buy the PS2 when it first came out

People who bought PS2 bought theirs already, saving up for PS3. People who haven't bought a console yet buy the XBox for the "free games" factor. PS2 still has a 10:1 ownership ratio over Xbox.

Nah. As the first gen machines continue to die, people will buy new ones ;)

Load times are the reason why I love my modded Xbox. Halo and Halo 2 load so slow when you first start the game and now it loads in seconds. I also have HDLoader for my PS2 so all my PS2 games load quicker too.
