BOY do i have a story to tell

My 9yr old was playing the xbox on fri afternoon (spring break) and came into the LR and asked GGma " do you smell something?"
GGma.."NO!?"
Son" well my xbox smells funny and there is SMOKE comming from it!"
GGma goes into room and sure emough it is smoking like a tire fire.
Unplugs xbox and goes throws it outside to cool off
I come home.."what smells?"
........
ok now to part 2
Call M$ xbox on sat afternoon after finding out that there is a prob with the xbox wile searching the web for a replacement PS.
CS rep gets my info and i state that it was "smokeing"
CS rep "OH!!!!!! i cannot help you with that.....You have to talk to a supervisor"
puts me on hold and connects me to a Super CS
She is very kind BUT cautious not to tell me to much
States thy will "take care of everything"
she made sure to ask "is anything damaged? any Emergency staff called?..smoke damage?....tv damage...ECT

Now i am wondering.......

she goes on to state it will be taken care of(xbox) ...no cost to me...and they will, out of the goodness of there heart, NEXT day a box to me to send the xbox back to them. The box will contain a shipping label to NEXT DAY it back to them.

She asked that i "not wait around to long before sending"

Now today it is EASTER sun
Got a call at noon
Who might you ask?
M$
CS rep " this is xbox cs..did you get the box we sent?"
ME.."It's easter sun..., no shipping today."
cs rep "OH....long pause(must be pretty dumb)...well i call again tomorrow. please send it back in the box as soon as possible"

ME " ok ?"

now am i missing something?
they seem WAY to eager to get this thing back
any advice?

by the way i believe it to be a vers 1
mf date was like 4-02
non modded...never opened (not like my other one which was modded)

I'd take a LOT of pictures, and think about contacting a newspaper - sounds like they want it back ASAP so they can do some damage control. They'll be wanting to reduce their legal liability.

Tell them you have decided to hang onto it until after youve spoken to a lawyer.

why cause the trouble?
they've done a recall about the wire and publically said what is wrong with it.
think there is more to the story?

You guys are so wierd.

Sue??? For what?!? The only damage done was to the Xbox. And guess what... MS is going to replace it.

Smartermoney, feel free to keep the Xbox if you want a dead Xbox. Personally, I'd rather have a brand new, WORKING model.

Exactly. If the only thing that's busted is the xbox, send it to them ASAP so you can get your new xbox back and start playing ASAP.

Ohh yes, fight one of the biggest companies to sap some money out of them. First they offered to replace it at no charge to the buyer, not many companies do this. They are covering their but this is typical of any failed product that has been publicly announced. If you keep it and go "public" with the problem, then in the future don't complain about higher product prices and higher insurance rates that companies pass onto the consumer.

Send the unit back, get a new unit in return and possibly an added gift, end of deal.

I don't get it. Why not send it back? Just first make sure nothing else got damaged. Unless the XBOX is spitting out fumes of VX gas, I dont see why people are saying to contact a laywer first.

They will repalce it, you get a new XBOX and story is over.

say you had a shoebox full of your lifesavings on top of the xbox.

imagine your sorrow and pain when all the money you worked for in your life got burnt up w/ the xbox.

make MS pay! They dont deserve to life for taking away your money!

Yeah, except from the sounds of it, if the xbox had caught fire and burned up your life savings, they would have offered to replace that, too.

THey are obviously trying to do some damage control, but they arne't making any effort to pass losses along to the consumer (smartermoney), so what's the problem? THey treat you with respect, and you return the favour, and everyone comes out happier.

They're just worried that some piece of trailer trash, like some of the first people to reply, will try to sue them for millions because of a faulty cable. You really can't blame them considering these idiots have won suits for spilling coffee on themselves (cost McDonalds millions & prices have risen by almost %50 since) and other such nonsense. If we, the people, don't call for a reform of our court systems then we are headed for a painful future...guaranteed. You children who suggested he sue over a dead Xbox have alot to learn about how your actions may affect the rest of us.

I hate people who try to squeeze every dollar out of a corporate company as much as they can. Did the XBOX do any damage to anything else besides itslef? No...

Personally, I don't like M$ much, but at least they are trying to be helpful and get it to you quickly. And as others have said, you can't really blame them. Just send it back, get the new xbox, and be happy.
