Xbox over PS2 controler any day.

I like the big Xbox controler not the Controler S. its too small. But i would use the Controler S over a PS2 controler if i could. I have big hands it hard to use smaller controlers. My only complaint is that the smaller contrler has a better buttion layout than the larger one has. Thats why i like my logitec wirless controler.

I aggree, the old XBOX was great, but I still think the PS2 are better, I like the extra shoulder buttons

I have all three systems, and easily prefer the Xbox Controller Type S to any of the others. The GameCube's pad being the worst... BY FAR. Nothing reedeming about that controller in the slightest.

I couldn't agree more with ya, Chad. The only thing the PS2 pad has over the Xbox -S is the additional R and L buttons.

But even still, I'll take the Xbox's triggers over that anyday. :)

Btw... What do you guys play on the PC that might require a gamepad?

I use a gamepad on the PC for emulation like MAME.
Anyone know where can I find a USB converter for the Atari 2600 controller?

Your personal opinion that you dont like the GC controller is valid.
However it is regarded by many many people, and throughout the industry, that the GameCube controller is the best.
The chances are that you are too used to instant reaction buttons, where as 4 of the 9 GC Controller buttons are pressure sensative, and so find them alien to what you have grown accustomed to.

Hey that sounds cool. Where can I get an Atari 2600 controller that I can use on my PC. That would be cool!

Actually... All of the buttons on the Xbox and PS2 controllers are pressure sensitive, as well.

That must be something very new, cos i was playing on mate mates very new PS2 the other day, and it didnt have pressure sensative buttons.
You do know what i mean by "pressure sensative buttons" dont you?
What i mean is, for example, in Marios Sunshine, the right shoulder button, the more you press it in, the more water comes out of "fludd", and when its in all the way, it clicks, and locks in position for you. Something similar is used in Lugis Mantion and SW:RL:RS2. These are true pressure sensative buttons, and then theres the other type, which the GC use`s as the primary character control, and the PS2/XBox uses as extra buttons, the ones which the further you push the stick in one direction, the faster the on screen movement, these allow almost minuete control of game characters movements.
As far as i know, the PS2/XBox only use the second, analogue stick kind.
In fact, im almost 100% certain that the PS2/XBox doesnt use the first kind that i mentioned.

BoomAM, on the Xbox controller for certain (i don't have a PS2 so can't comment on that), ALL the buttons (other than pressing down the analog sticks) are pressure sensitive. Many games don't use the abilities of the 256 levels of sensitivity, many just use them as if they are on/off buttons.

I believe that the PS2 does this also, and was one of the many features that it was tooted as having when it came out.

They don't "lock into position for you" when you press them all the way, as you say the GC one does. I don't think I'd like that, as it seems very counter-intuitive if they lock when you get to full, as it makes it more difficult to release it slightly.

I have`nt heard of this either.

What i mean by "locks into position", is that it clicks to let you know that its all the way in. I mis-worded it slightly before.

From xbox.com
# Eight-way directional pad (D-pad)
# Left and right analog sticks; left and right shoulder triggers
# Six pressure-sensitive multicolored analog buttons

From playstation.com
Description: The standard controller for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, the DUALSHOCK 2 analog controller delivers a more intuitive gaming experience, with pressure sensitivity on every action button (up to 255 levels of sensitivity!) and the enhanced mobility of the analog thumbsticks. So, accelerate, decelerate, and maneuver through a course with surgical precision or unlock even more fighting moves and secret weapons. Either way, the DUALSHOCK 2 revolutionizes the way games are played.

This controller is compatible with any game, including PlayStation® format software, that supports digital control, analog control, vibration function and/or pressure sensitive function, and on any system including the PlayStation game console and the PS one console; however, pressure-sensitive button features work only with the PlayStation 2 system.

Fair enough, I understand what you mean now :)

Thanks for clearing that up for me.
I was just browsing through a XBox launch mag that ive got, and it mentions in there about the pressure buttons on the XBox controller.
Ive never really noticed it on PS2 though. Must be very very impresise buttons, cos all PS & PS2 controllers and their buttons just seem really flimsy and cheap, to me anyway.

Roger that.

I don't know how anyone can play a shooter without a mouse.

I I could use a mouse, I might get an XBOX.

Nah, they aren't "impresise"... They work quite well.

Btw, I wouldn't describe the triggers on the GC and Xbox controllers as "pressure sensitive". Analog would be a better description, since they have a range of motion.

The pressure sensitive buttons on the PS2 and Xbox don't really have a range of motion, but the signal changes depending on how hard you are pressing on them.

Pez, I noticed you were on my XBL friends list but have never actually seen you on. If you ever do get on some time give me a msg and let me know. Would like to hook up and chill playing some games with a friend.

P.S. Work at Intel still going good?

On subject: My dislike for the GameCube controller has absolutely nothing to do with pressure sensitive buttons (or in the point of your case, supposed lack thereof).. it has to do with a terrible layout and config, which is especially bad and becomes apparently so when used with sports games, which brings out every reason the controller is my least favorite.

Edit: You took the Pez off the end of your username?

I have one of these xbox controller usb adapter and was using the XTRL drivers.
It work well with Vice city and I did get that spinning character problem.
You have to choose standard or Classic in the control options to correc this (I forgot which one did not spin)

The spinning character also occured in my logitech rumbel pad and was related to adjusting the slider control.

Vice city does not support force feedback feature

I have to say that the Xbox controller (Both original and S) are better than the Gamecube controller. The S is better than than the PS2, but the PS2 is probablly better than the originial Xbox controller. The S really is the best. The buttons on the gamecube just aren't natural.

Who liked the N64 controller? You can't use all the buttons at once!

The ps2 loses massive points for not having a trigger button. Seriously, the X button is the firing? Thats super lame.

As for this whole USB converter, you can build your own easily, since the Xbox uses a mis-shaped USB port. There is an article somewhere, I'll post the link if I find it.

In your opinion.

Yet again, in your opinion.
The buttons on the gamecube just aren't natural.
Ive never had any problem with them. Can`t say any of my mates have either.

The N64 controller ruled.

I just dont like the PS1 or PS2 controllers. They are just plain crap.
