Xbox Component Cables

My lovely girlfriend just bought me an Xbox Elite. It's the first console I've owned since I had an SNES.

Soooo, I know it doesn't come with Component cables, and I know the original MS ones are too expensive. Monoprice is sold out. Is there another brand that y'alls recommend? Used (ebay/craigslist?) Wait for monoprice? Monster? 🙂-P) Does it matter?

Thanks!

Monoprice is going to be your cheapest option by far, so you might want to consider waiting. Otherwise, you could check Amazon or even a used game store like Gamestop or Play N' Trade.

do a couple searches and you'll find some nice lists of other cheap cable sites. I believe I started one not too long ago if thats easier

I actually just got the XBox 360 component cable set for <$15 at Buy.com (sold by some other store) a few weeks back but I believe that deal is dead now. As mentioned above I would go to local Gamestop/etc to find a used one for cheap.

Do you have any specific reason for not using HDMI?

Here you go.

Great cables at great prices. More expensive than Monoprice, but they're better quality cables too. I actually prefer them over Monoprice.

Sorry Jack, I love BJC but you are missing the point here, the Xbox needs a special adapter for component as the Xbox end is a proprietary video pack connector. Monoprice carries that, BJC does not.

But as cronos points out, you are better off using a standard HDMI cable unless the TV only supports component.

I have an older TV set that has, weirdly, a DVI input, but no HDMI. The bigger issue is the receiver I have, which doesn't have either. So, I could run an HDMI->DVI adapter to the TV, and then run the optical out to the receiver, but that just means the rest of the stuff switched from the receiver will be on a different input (i.e. more input switching on the TV than I'm used to) but I guess that's not the end of the world. But seeing as the point of HDMI is to do both audio and video in one cable, and I wouldn't be doing that, it probably doesn't make much sense, especially considering I might have to do one of those screwdriver tricks to get the block off the component cable so both it and the hdmi cable will fit (which is a good question: do the monoprice cables have enough room for that?)

Soooo, having said that, it looks like wait for monoprice to get it back in stock, or go to a gamestop or something?

Ah, I was unaware the 360 had a special cable for component. I know the original Xbox had a special connector for HD, but I thought the 360 was more standardized. I guess that's not the case. I always used HDMI with my Elite. Sorry about that OP.
