Microsoft has $48 billion in current assets (i.e. cash, and investments which can quickly be converted into cash). Link.
Microsoft could buy out *all* of Sony right now. Not just their video gaming division, but also their TV factories, their recording studios, *everything*.
Microsoft has never backed down from anything before. If they wanted to, they could just buy out all of Sony and take the PS2 off the market 🙂
BTW: Some of you PS2 fanboys ought to go and talk to your local video game retailers. The new X-Box bundle appears to be selling quite well.
