I am going to get a vga cable to hook my 360 to a 22" Mitsubishi Diamondtron CRT monitor, but I am curious about one thing. Do I need a wide screen display to get the better (HD) resolutions? This has been bugging me, thanks for any help.

you'll just have the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

1360x768
1920x1080

If you choose a 4:3 resolution in the dashboard, it will show a full screen during gameplay. I've hooked one up to my crt monitor a few times.

This depends on the game. Some of them will actually produce a widescreen frame using black bars to preserve aspect.

I use a VGA cable with my XBox 360 on several LCD monitors with no problems. Just set the xbox to the monitors native resolution and it'll work fine.
