not the article from tv, but it has the same statement

So G4 reported around 2am last night that Microsoft claims its XBox 360 to be unhackable. Well, I don't believe we have ever seen something as ironic coming from Microsoft as something Micrsoft built, programmed and made security features for EVER to be unhackable. Nevertheless, "gentlemen, start your soldering guns" as a G4 host said

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4160076.stm this will make it a nice, cheap mod contest too. only 299 w/o HDD, 399 with (RIPOFF! a 20gb HDD for $100, come on now MS)

original xbox wasn't softmodded. You actually had to install something in there.

Solder a jumper and use a software exploit to flash the bios. No extra hardware was necessary. 🙂

maybe G4 said that but that's NOT what Microsoft says in the articles you linked to.

But Mr Satchell admitted no system was fool-proof and that, with enough time and dedication, the security on the Xbox 360 would be broken

uh, yea... that's just restating what I said.

key phrase is
G4 reported

First off you get a lot more for that $100 than the extra hardrive. So to say it like that looks stupid and is untrue.

microsoft=pwned. They admitted that the xbox360 was vulnerable a few minutes after they claimed unhackable.

Saying something like this is so stupid. It's just going to egg the techies on. Christ, why don't they just put a big, green bullseye on the front of the console?

Oh wait...

I dunno. Maybe it's to generate word of mouth among the enthusiasts. Probably a clever spin ploy.

That's not restating what you said. you provided links and said G4 reported but you did not make any statement disputing that. I'm saying that G4's report contradicts what the report says Microsoft says.

I imagine that it will be taken down sooner or later; but anyone who expects it to be as easy as the original Xbox will probably be in for an unpleasant surprise. If nothing else, they'll have to figure out the system architecture and hack it, where the Xbox was pretty much a normal machine, once the gimpy BIOS was out of the way.
