Do you have a gaming PC? If so, the 360 won't offer you much over what the PC does, since nearly all the good games are ports or will be ported.</end quote></div>

This is more or less totally false. Many of the premier titles on the 360 have no PC counterpart, nor will they.</end quote></div>

Lets take a look at the top 10 best reviewed games for the 360 (according to gamerankings.com)

1) Oblivion - PC
2) Gears of War
3) Guitar Hero II
4) GRAW - PC
5) Castlevania (XBLA)
6) Call of Duty 2 - PC
7) Forza Motorsport 2
8) Rainbow Six Vegas - PC
9) Burnout Revenge
10) PGR 3
11) Oblivion: Shivering Isles - PC
12) Geometry Wars - (XBLA)
13) GRAW 2 - PC
14) Dead or Alive 4
15) FNR 3
16) Dead Rising
17) Viva Pinata
18) NBA 2k7
19) Splinter Cell Double Agent - PC
20) F.E.A.R. - PC

7 of the 20 (35%) are currently available on PC.

If you count the arcade games, which can almost definitely be obtained one way or another for the PC, you get 9 of 20 (45%).

So there is a significant amount of overlap between 360 and PC, but not so much that a 360 is irrelevent, especially since it is a pretty cheap and easy to use alternative to PC gaming.

EDIT: Plus Gears of War is the big system seller right now and is 360 exclusive. When Halo 3 comes out it will be at least a year and probably more until the PC version comes.

The "It's also out on the PC!" argument is tired. Mostly because it is MS's strategy to have games come out on the PC and the 360. There will be some exclusives on either side of that fence but to discount the 360 because of it doesn't make sense because of MS's strategy (whether or not you think it is the right strategy). They have two platforms to support - the 360 and Windows.

My xbox 360 was made in December 06, and it's playing Gears of War and Forza 2 on Live everyday!
Some people say that the "Nyko Intercooler" might mess up your 360, but i've been using mine for almost 2 years and everything is working perfectly fine. But i don't need to use the intercooler, i can turn it off, and everything still remains playable.

I guess I find your post nonsensical. The 360 is the only console that combines these titles, whether or not they're exclusive - it doesn't make any sense to exclude the XBLA games. At the end of the day, it has (IMO) the most satisfying library of any current-gen console.

The 360 does have an excellent library - just that for me, and many others, we don't need a 360 to access a large amount of the library. I know gaming PCs are more expensive than a console...but if he already has one, why overlap?

I don't really understand recommending a console based on the fact that it is "less like" other ones - by this criteria a DS would be just as valid a suggestion. The Wii has been an amazing success story in the market, but it isn't really a viable choice for most serious gamers - the people I know who have them spend more time messing with their Miis than they do playing games. It's interesting how twitchy and palsied the Wii control scheme is in the menus - this is the same reason it doesn't lend itself to precise control during gaming.

Well, every serious gamer I know has a Wii (and a DS), and plays it all the time. Before it broke and I returned it, my 360 just collected dust after everyone I knew moved on from GoW. I'd certainly recommend a DS over a PSP if he was looking for a portable. Its a less "serious" system than the 360 for sure, but the OP clearly isnt a serious gamer, otherwise he wouldnt be asking which console to buy - he'd know what games he wanted and know what console to get.

I just dont know what you're talking about with twitchiness and imprecision - its far more precise than an analog stick can ever hope to be. (Which the Wii does have as well, lets not forget.)

And its a good strategy, and those are some damn good games that are 360/Windows. It's not really an argument against the 360 in general, just to a specific crowd who may see less value in it because of that.

Part of me does really hope that the cross platform windows/360 live stuff fails...I really don't want to hear those stupid annoying little kids cursing me out in every game. Sure I've had plenty of horrible things typed to me over the years, but the impact of hearing the 10 year old's voice as he describes the various ways he is going to **** my mother...its just...wow.

But thats the main problem with the Wii though - no online games to speak of. Unless you want to count pokemon, which just dropped - I know I don't. And even when online games do start piling in - strikers and batallion wars are going to be great online titles - the lack of voice chat and the lack of that "in the living room with your friends" feeling the 360 can give you is really going to hurt it. They did enable voice on the DS though, so I'm praying for some kind of mic to be announced at E3 in a few weeks, but that is a giant massive hole in the Wii's abilties. And friend codes...ewww.

- you'll lose the 360 for 2-3 weeks later when it breaks on you</end quote></div>

thats way off man. i sent my 360 in and got it back in less than a week.
i would not waste my money getting a wii, even with having to send my 360 back in.

No, he's pretty accurate. My 360 took 3 weeks total to get back to me. That includes waiting for MS to send the box, getting the box, packing 360 in the box, shipping the box out, waiting for MS to receive it, waiting for UPS to ship it back. Took 2.8 weeks. 🙂

360 + BestBuy warranty FTW. I bought my 360 Elite on launch day, and it's been doing great! But if anythign goes wrong with it, I just take it back to BB and replace it that day. None of this waiting for 2-3weeks junk.</end quote></div>

Costco does the same, and they don't charge extra.

How long is the Costco warranty good for?

I read somewhere (CNN?) that the wiimote actually has a chip for a mic already built into it, so a mic is undoubtedly coming.

It's not a warranty per se - it's a lifetime satisfaction guarantee. If you're ever unhappy with something you buy from Costco, you can return it for a full refund.

Some people abused that policy and used it to upgrade their HDTV every few years. As a result, there are some items that have shorter return windows - computers, TVs, and a few other things. I don't consider returning a broken 360 to be abuse of their return policy - I think that's exactly what their return policy is for. I wouldn't return my working 360 to get an Elite if Costco ever starts selling Elites - that would be abuse IMO.

I believe Costco holds their suppliers to the same standard - if a customer is dissatisfied with a purchase, Costco sends it back to the manufacturer. So Microsoft eats the cost for their design flaw.

Edit: Downside of buying it at Costco is that it's a bundle. The one I got was $459 for:
Xbox 360
Extra wireless controller ($40)
Play & Charge kit ($20?)
XBLA Unplugged ($18)

Not bad if you would buy that stuff anyway.

I think in the long run the Wii is going to be the clear winner. It hasn't even been out for a year yet so of course the lineup is going to be weak. When I look at the 360 lineup I see the same ideas rehashed over and over. The 360 caters to a certain group of gamers, which will hurt it in the long run. Developers are going to follow the money, and as the Wii continues to sell, the great games will start rolling in.

Online will improve, with Wifi and everything in place its just a matter of time. EA games are going to start having online, including Madden 08. Not to mention its free. The controllers are getting better, and the newer shooters are going to showcase what the Wii can do.

I don't really see them as competitive in many respects. The Wii will continue to be successful IMO, in that it is appealing to a very broad audience, but IMO the control scheme is a gimmick that only works for certain types of games, and ultimately the hardware is very limited in power. Personally I have zero interest in the Wii, but to each his own.
