Alright, i'm considering getting an Xbox 360. I already got a PS3 which i got back in march, and i'm considering getting a 360.

The things i like about the Xbox 360 are the number of games it has, the Xbox Live thing that i may consider doing, the game achievement system, among other things.

However, the one thing that holds me back from getting a 360 is the RROD type things, i've heard alot about that.

Should i go ahead and get a 360 for Christmas or not?

Sure, with the New Xbox Experience coming out with Netflix integration, plus everything you mentioned before, I think it is an excellent rounded out system.

Just get the extended warranty from where ever you buy it.

Are there any stores that allow you to return the xbox directly to the store(rather than having to ship it directly back to microsoft)?

Also, has the 360's failure rate gone down? I don't want to have to deal with it breaking down all the time(i've heard horror stories of people having 10+ of them failing)?

If its for Xmas I would wait till late Nov to get one, give the new Jasper board enough time to come out. That way you should never have any issues (with RROD anyway).

What games should i get with the 360?

I already got the orange box and COD4 for the PC and PS3, so those are out.

Well what type of games do you enjoy? If you're into shooters I'd say Gears of War, Gears of War 2 and Frontlines: Fuel of War. I'm sure there are other games to recommend though.

I just got a new 360 premium 60gb that was manufactured in 09/2008 and even after hours of playing it is barely warm.

also, if you get an extended warranty from best buy, you can just return it for a giftcard at any time and buy another new in the box one.

Microsoft is really good on their turn around times on these though

Is there a limit to how many times you can do that? Do you have to buy a new warranty every time your Xbox breaks down and you return it for a new one?

I'm into shooters(well, third person shooters for consoles, I prefer to do FPSs on the PC) and RPGs.

The Falcons don't have RRoD problems like the old ones did. Seriously, I would not let that dissuade you from purchasing one.

Also, the "10% failure" figure for Falcons is from an article by a guy with no first-hand knowledge of the Falcon failure rate, just the old failure rate. All the anecdotal evidence has been 2% or less, which is pretty normal.

So i guess the Xbox 360 is now the same failure rate as anything else out there? Guess i might get one.

Microsoft's turnaround time is good right now, I got a RROD repair coming Monday and I shipped it off little over a week ago. I'm in KY it went to TX. Of course I didn't wait for the box they send, I packaged myself and had them email a label.

I've got both, and I still don't regret my 360 purchase. I have like a total of three PS3 games, and there are only 4-5 in the future that I know of that I'm even interested in. It's been my experience that cross-platform games tend to play better on the 360, too, due to the controller and XBL, but that's certainly not always the case.
