What about using something like this instead of the component?

This

The VGA cables work great. You get 1080p and can upconvert DVDs. Just don't get these cables that you linked if you want an optical audio out....it doesn't have one.

But 1080p doesn't really matter in my case, because my TV is only listed as having 1080i, correct? I have a Sony Grand Wega. I'm not even sure if my TV has a VGA input.

I looked on the back and it has an input called "RGB." Does anyone know what this is?

Does it look like a VGA hookup?

In your case, it doesn't matter unless you want to upconvert DVDs.

Well, you can always hook a PC up to it to test it out.

pardon my ignorance but does the 360 upconvert dvds? does this question even make sense?

With the VGA cables, yes. Any other cables, no.

so if my hdtv has vga input and i have the vga cable from 360 i'm good but if i only have component in then i'm SOL?

My friend Upconverted using the component cables.... His TV even said it was running the movie in 720p

Edit: although he DLed the HD version of a movie from the marketplace so i guess it wasn't really upconverting just playing the HD file...

It was funny though cuz the movie was >7GB and it took him almost 48 hours to DL it all

I was able to connect my computer to my TV using the VGA "monitor" connection.

Does anyone know where you can get the Xbox 360 VGA with the optical sound connection? I can only find the coaxial "red" and "white" inputs.

NO. They did it because some people may not need a HD or HD cables.
