You've just been given an assload of reasons on why it would be stupid of you to get the core version. If you still want the core version then go ahead.

I also do not know how much time I will spend playing it; I will more than likely watch my DVDs and possibly HD-DVDs on it.

Should I save myself some money and get the Core set-up? Do the Premium packages come with better warranties?

Anything I should know?

The Premium is a much better buy, wireless controller, HD cables, headset, and of course the hard drive which costs $100 retail by itself.

pardon my ignorance but does the 360 upconvert dvds? does this question even make sense?

With the VGA cables, yes. Any other cables, no.

so if my hdtv has vga input and i have the vga cable from 360 i'm good but if i only have component in then i'm SOL?

For upconverting, yeah. Can't even use a VGA-DVI converter because most TVs don't accept an analog connection through DVI.

Another good thing about the HD is a lot of 360 games will use the HD to cache the game so you either get smooth streaming or quick to almost no load times as oppose to it having to stream directly off the disc.

You really should just get the premium. If you dont youll have to buy a memory card for 40, hd cables for around the same, so for 20 extra its much more worth it. My favorite thing about live personally is being able to download demos, you can do that for free with the silver live account but you need the HD to do it.

Also at least in the future if you do wish to try out some aracade games or something else you can and arent restricted to a small memory card

No, just get the Premium. You'll want to get hooked up to Live...and then you'll want to download demos (best feature of live next to playing others online). They you'll regret not having a HD.

People refer to the 360 Core as the "tard pack" for a reason. You'll spend way more than $100 if you decide to purchase AV cables, a wireless controller, and a HDD later on. The only reason Microsoft produced it was to be able to say they were coming in at the $300 price point.

Having the ability to try out game demos and avoid craptacular, overhyped games alone makes the Premium version worth it.

I'm going to go premium. I found a good deal. I will probably go with the xbox live silver. I did hear that Microsoft is planning on using a new processor that will run cooler. Should this be a reason to wait? Is this just speculation?

It won't be until mid-to-late next year that you'll see the new processor. So, it is really up to you on whether you are willing to wait it out or not.

i just got a premium... seriously getting the core isn't worth it. The hard drive alone will cost you around 70 on ebay if you ever decide to upgrade...

I paid 340 for mine... local pickup ftw

I have an HD TV. Is there a reasonable reason to consider getting the HD-DVD drive for the 360? I heard that the format war between HD-DVD and Blu Ray will never end, both formats will be readily available. I also have heard that a newer, better format will be released soon that will wipe Blu Ray and HD-DVD away. True or what?

I wouldn't use a console for a DVD player. Just get a good standalone one if you care about movies.

I doubt it. They would have to keep the standard.

Yep. Cooler, smaller, and cheaper will be the benefit. No performance increase (beyond improved reliability).

I knew it would come to this. I am having a dilemma if I should get the 360 or wait.

getting the Xbox360 Core is about the dumbest thing one can do.

the ONLY reason they even put out a core system was so they could say "We're selling the Xbox360 at launch for $300" and no other reason. THey knew no one wanted one, but if it's all that's available, they don't have much of an option, AND MS can still claim they are selling it for $300.

Why do you think the split was like 80/20 Premium/Core ?

Wait for the better processor to come out. Well, here is my situation. I will be going to college in the fall of 2007, so I won't be taking my 360 with me. Then again I will only have the system for like 7 months or so. I will probably play it with friends over the summer and on weekends.

You likely won't see the new processor until later this year...like when you're off to college later.

You might as well get one know if you intend on enjoying it.

The 65nm processors got delayed to like June this year and they wont effect the games at all, its just gonna run cooler and drain less power, its not gonna be better in any other way.
