Xbox 360 Premium vs. Xbox 360 Core...

I am considering an Xbox 360. I do not plan on putting music on it. I do not plan on putting DVDs on it. I really do not plan on putting any other sort of media on it. I plan on playing some games and saving them. So basically 20 GBs of hard drive are kinda useless in my situation, I think.

I also do not know how much time I will spend playing it; I will more than likely watch my DVDs and possibly HD-DVDs on it.

Should I save myself some money and get the Core set-up? Do the Premium packages come with better warranties?

Anything I should know?
 
I get most of my games used off of amazon; I won't do much downloading. I don't think I will even run Xbox live.

That is a valid point. But I am more concerned with the hard drive situation.
 
Plan on playing any original xbox games? - you'll need the HD

With the free version of Xbox Live you can download Game Demos, Trailers, and additional content for already owned games.

I think you should get the hard drive. A memory card is giong to cost you, might as well just get the hard drive and it's added benefits.

You will have to purchase them separately. As well as a memory card to store game saves.

They are generally $40 each. The $40 memory card is 64MB. So for $20 more you will get a 20GB hard drive as well as the HD component cables.

best bet would be to go with the premium model. It comes with all this stuff * Contains:
- Microsoft XBOX 360 console
- 20 GB Hard drive
- wireless controller
- HD AV cable
- ethernet network cable
- wired XBOX Live headset
- white faceplate
- XBOX Live Silver service

if you buy the core model, your going to buy the hd dvd cables, a memory card to save your games. right there, your almost caught up to premium model price.
 
Why is this even a question, especially if you're going to go ahead and buy a memory card, HD cables, etc.? Is it worth all of the trouble to try and save $5?
 
I'm not even sure why microsoft release a core version of the xbox 360? Probably to force the user who bought the core version to go out and buy the accessories and eventually paying more for the same stuff if they would have bought the premium model instead.

Well, you can download HD (and SD) movies and TV shows from xbox Live now too. Plus there's all the Live Arcade stuff if you're into that. You can access the Marketplace with a Silver (free) membership, so you wouldn't have to upgrade to Gold.

I've heard rumors of a 100gb HD addon for the xbox360, but I'm not sure I'd hold out for it at this point.
 
The Premium, although more expensive upfront, is a much better deal. The hard drive allows you to download games from the Live service, as well as have a ton of gamesaves, plus it comes with a headset and wireless controllers. There are plenty of good deals on used equipment in the FS/FT forum, plus Outpost.com is having a deal for like $350 for a Premium:

I really don't care about playing people online, downloading games, playing arcade style games. The only use I could see would be to get the updates, but can't I get that with mailed CDs? I don't really want to spend $10.00 a month on something I really wouldn't use.

At minimum, sign up for Live Silver. It is free and allows you to download updates, demos, movies, XBL Arcade games, send messages, and chat with friends. The only thing it doesn't let you do is play online against others.

And it isn't $10 a month for Live Gold. $50/yr = $4.17/month.

Probably because the "premium" bundle costs so much, many people might balk at the price. I think the core system is sufficient for a lot of people who don't play online.
 
Ok, I can see that as a possibility. I am just not really interested in playing others online, because I will get my ass kicked. ; )

so if my hdtv has vga input and i have the vga cable from 360 i'm good but if i only have component in then i'm SOL?
