XBox 360 or PS3?

I'm going to be having surgery in about a month or so, and will be laid up for about 5 months. I figured I'd buy myself a new game system to help pass the time. I've been a PC gamer all my life, the last console game system I bought was back in 1987, so I have no idea what the best system is. Seems like the two to get are the XBox 360, or the PS3 (I'm not getting a Wii, I don't want something that I'll need to be doing a lot of moving around while I'm recuperating).

So, I was hoping to get some opinions here. If money was not a consideration, and you were going to buy a new game system, which one would you buy, and why? I'd really like opinions from people who own both, I get the feeling that this is going to be like asking people what is better, Chevy or Ford, some people are die hard Chevy people, and likewise Ford. So I'd be real interested in why you would prefer one over the other.

The little bit of info I got from the cashier at EB Games was that the PS3 cost more, but you have to pay $50 a year for the XBox 360 to play against other people. The PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player, but the XBox 360 can get NetFlix movies. That's about all I know, any help would be most appreciated.

360, no doubt. Also wrong forum.

I own both. Hardly ever use my Ps3 outside of bluray movies. Both have exclusive titles, neither is really much better in that regard. Online gaming is FAR superior on the 360, if for no other reason than the amount of people that play online with the 360.

well what do you plan on using it for? do you only care about games? what kind of games do you like? check out the exclusives for each system to see which you would like.

how often would you play online? do you want a blu ray player?

PS3 fits my needs

Did a search for XBox 360 on this and the Consumer Electronics forums, came up with the same number of posts, so I picked this one.

Since you own both, which one has the better graphics?

I have a blue ray player, so I don't need another one. It's going to be just for games, and possibly movies off of NetFlix. I don't play a whole lot online, most games I get I play single player. I generally like role playing games, shoot-em ups, strategy.

Depends on the game. The difference is fairly negligible in my opinion. Maybe some people can see the difference, but I really can't.

Really...it depends on what features you want the most.

PS3 has Blu-ray...360 has...more/better (opinion) exclusives.

I mean, you really have to look at the games...both systems are about equal when it comes to sound and graphics quality (360 usually out doing the PS3 with graphics, but not by much and certainly not like it did when they both first came out)...

So the question is...which exclusives do you like the best? Halo/Gears of War/Forza, etc on the 360 or Metal Gear Solid/Uncharted/Gran Turismo/etc on the PS3?

Both consoles have good controllers, quality hardware, basically offer the same thing like online gaming, media centers, etc...

Like I said, it basically boils down to what games you like the best. Now for that youd have to decide for yourself.

Another thought: Since you have to pay to play online against other people with the XBox 360, does that make game play better (ie keeping out the "riff raff", the kids with no manners, etc)?

Another qestion: Does anyone use NetFlix with their XBox? If so, how well does it work? Can you just watch movie after movie as much as you want, or do they limit you to a certain number of movies per day?

As far as I know you dont have to pay to play online...for the basic Xbox Live service...for the more advanced features you do...unless they changed something...

In either case, still riff raff on both consoles...you can NEVER escape them! MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I have both. Also have the HD DVD player for the 360. Neither looks better than the other....it really depends on who did the transferring of the movie and how much time they spent.

The 360 has a FAR more friendly user interface. It's not even close. The 360's wireless is also a lot faster.
I have some games for the PS3, but mostly old PS2 games for the kids....I have the 60g one that is backwards-compatible all the way to PS1 games.

If there is a game that's out for both, I always choose the 360 version. PS3 has a lot of cool features, but it is SLOW.

Also have a Wii, too, but it's really just a gimmick that we break out every few months for a night or two, then quit playing it again.

You can't play online with the free XBox service. (Silver) You have to pay to upgrade to Gold to do that. (it's like 45 bucks a year, and you can find coupons for 39.99 if you look)

Yet another two questions:

Which one would have a better resale value? After recuperation, I don't know if I'll be playing games much, and might end up putting it up on Ebay.

And, if I DO end up keeping it, does either one have some kind of adapter so you can play games like on the Wii?

If you get the newest version of either one (PS3 Slim, Xbox 360 Slim) then resale will be identical...maybe more on the 360 just cause more people like them/newer design and all that.

And, if I DO end up keeping it, does either one have some kind of adapter so you can play games like on the Wii?

No following the question here...

OK, so it looks like I need to start looking into the games for each one, to see which one has more titles that I'd like to play. Thanks for the opinions, looks like I have some work to do.

Recovery was the same reason I bought a 360 a couple years ago. Played it for a couple months and haven't touched it since. It along with a few games, unopened extra controller is getting put on CL.

PM me if you are selling, maybe I'll be interested, though it might be a couple of weeks before I decide which system I'm going to go with. Let me know what games you have too.
