Hoping for some networking help. I have a pretty unusual setup (such is life as a renter), and having an annoying issue where every time i pair my 360 to my HTPC, when i turn the xbox off and on, i need to re-pair it yet again as it can't reconnect.

So here's the setup:

Wifi on HTPC:
  • IP: 192.168.1.1
  • Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Then it's hard wired to a switch which is connected to the Xbox 360. I have ICS enabled on the HTPC (Windows 7) and here are the network settings for both the wired ethernet and the Xbox:

  • IP: 192.168.137.xx
  • Subnet: 255.255.255.0

So.....where am i going wrong? Super annoying

I only have a very basic understanding of networking setups, but your mask for the 360 looks wrong based on the address you're using. Maybe try 255.255.255.128 or 192?

Wait, so your HTPC is connected to wifi, and connected to a switch that the xbox is connected to? What?

What kind of switch you have

Options IMO:

1. Try direct connecting the Xbox to the PC with a crossover cable.

2. Buy a wireless bridge. There are single port wireless bridges, and multiple port wireless bridges. If you got the single port, you can hook the up the switch to it to share the bridge.

3. Buy a DDWRT compatible wireless router, set it up as a wireless bridge. Accomplishes the same thing as #2, just an alternative.

I setup quite a few DDWRT wireless bridges for the Xbox360 back when WLAN USB NICs for it were >$100

Used one myself for awhile too. Now I just try to hardwire anything possible.
