I know some people are goanna moan about another Xbox thread but.... Anyways, my dad was going to go out and pick one up for me and I convinced him not to because not only could the Xbox flop, but also later it could be sold for cheaper, better games out and may have HD-DVD? So I was wondering in YOUR opinion, was this a bad idea or not.
 
With consoles, I'm always about waiting for the inevitible price drop. Waiting for early production kinks to get worked out. Waiting for better game selection. Waiting for better accessory support. There's still great games out there for the original Xbox that I haven't gotten to yet. I can wait for things to smooth out with the 360 before pulling the trigger.

Notice a recurring theme with the word "waiting"?
 
I'm waiting for at least 2 price drops and even then I may get the PS3 instead. I have plenty of games for my PS2 and PC.

Did the original xbox really have any major design flaws/kinks? Surely there was nothing like the PS2 laser issue that there's apparently a class-action lawsuit for now.

I guess there was that power cord thing, but that didn't crop up until really late and MS did fix it.

Anyway, I don't have the requisite HDTV for the full "next-gen console" experience - so I probably won't buy one for another two years at least (grad-school stipend doesn't finance much in the way of an HDTV 😛)
 
Id wait a bit a see what happens..maybe a better version coming out??? but for sure you know it will be cheaper

Probably a present, I still haven't gotten anything for my birthday back in sept simply because I don't really want anything, well tho I DO Want a nice 37" HD TV.

If you're too cheap to get the 360 until 2 price drops, you're going to be very disappointed with the PS3, which will be much more expensive than the 360 at release.

I've never bought a console on launch. Everything costs too much. I'll wait for lower system prices, and mass quantities of used games.

I never asked for the TV for my birthday, nor mentioned it to my father. I have money saved up, around $1500 and I had planned to buy the tv with that, just can't find what I want though. I see a benQ model going for around $2000 and is what I'm looking for, 1080P as well but I've seen no reviews for it so....
 
lemme get this straight.

your parent was offering you to buy you this new gaming console and you refused, for whatever reason.

i think you should have just got the damn XBox and based your opinions on your own experience with it.
 
You should ask your dad to go out and pick you up some common sense, and get some for himself while he's at it.

my xbox 360 is a LONG ways away. Heck, I'm counting on the PS2's price dropping this holiday so that I can finally pick one of those up 😛
 
Dude, I'm still trying to get through all the good NES games, let alone the Genesis, SNES, N64, Xbox, PS and PS2..........

Aint gonna happe bud.

I checked all the black friday ads and not one... I repeat... not one console system is having a price drop.

So wait all you want but they will cost the same for at least another 3 - 6 months. Next Xmas you might pickup an xbox for $100

But by then the PS3, Nintendo Revolution and 360 would all have been out.
