Really? What the fuck. If I have RRoD, my warranty is 3 years. If the XBOX just doesn't work, it's a one year warranty, and they want $99 + tax.

What's pissing me off is that I probably have the same exact problem that causes RRoD (GPU shitting itself), but no rings of death. I got green/purple distorted colors, some checkerboarding, and now the XBOX just turns on and does nothing.

I'm even more pissed because I bought the Halo 3 Limited Edition, and now it's the fucking broken edition. My original XBOX is still going strong after 5+ years, being dropped twice from significant height, and being modded and unmodded. This thing has been by my TV since I bought it, treated very gently, and only used lightly, and now it's dead. Fuck you Microsoft, I'm buying a PS3.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to fix your xbox?

Didn't you hear?

They removed the red led's so they can stop fixing it for free. ;)

ps3 have the similar one year warranty, i think it costs $150 when you're out of warranty. my co-worker's blu-ray drive gave up the ghost (wtf does that mean anyway?). luckily he found the credit card slip showing that it is still in warranty. My still works fine (but I've only play 2 dvds, 1 blu-ray, and boot up 2 games since i got it for christmas). maybe you should induce RRoD on your XBOX 360.

Lol, for $99 + tax you are 2/3 of the way towards a new arcade bundle from dell.

Or a quarter of the way to a new PS3. ;)

I was contemplating that (on the front page of SD) but I like my Halo XBOX :(

I'm trying to figure out if I bought it with my dad's AMEX or with my debit card. I know the AMEX has the warranty doubling thing, so if so I'm good for the purchase price or a new Halo XBOX 360 (impossible, so they're giving me $ :)). I don't think my BofA Check Card has any warranty protection :(

I didn't get the RRoD the first time I had mine break, it just kept freezing and getting messed up. So I kept turning it off and on and eventually i got the RRoD.

Sounds good. I was just going to bake it.

Just swap the case if you like that color so much.

My bluetooth crapped out on me two months ago, after months of it losing synch when playing a game. I picked up a new board from e-bay and replaced the part myself. Total cost (not including tools)? $15.

The 360 is a piece of shit. I can't get Star Ocean to play for 10 minutes before it starts freezing. A quick Google search showed that I am not alone. Just like cars, American companies shouldn't be making consoles -- they just produce sucky crap.

I don't think in my whole life I have ever seen ANY console game outright freeze every time it was played. Not even the NES froze as much once you blew into it.

If it's that widespread with just that game, it's probably a game issue, not a hardware issue. The hardware can't make up for crappy developers.

That would be a game problem - Not a console problem.

A few years back I had a 360 with the RRoD and showed same symptoms. I cracked it open and applied AS5 to the GPU. Worked fine after that.
