Xbox 360 Hard Drive

I have some ATA drives I was going to sell because I'm building a new computer, but might keep one if the Xbox could use one.

In a custom removable caddy, and possibly using special marker files and/or a custom filesystem.

Having the real drive may also be the only way to get the initial set of xbox 1 emulation profiles. There is no reason for MS to make them downloadable if they ship on the MS drive.
 
Considering it is a 2.5" laptop drive, I would imagine it would be ATA6, which is still just standard IDE, but I feel that the connector for the hd will be propritary. While you may be able to upgrade to a bigger laptop hd, you're not going to be able to use any old ide device.

Perhaps they will let you download them if you don't have the HD and want to put them on the memory card.

I guess it depends on how big they are.
 
too bad the $100 also gets you a wireless controller, a headset, a DVD remote, and a high definintion AV pack......

It's sata, but with proprietary connections. I imagine it won't be long before there are 3rd party drives and adapters for normal PC ones.

This is a quote from the AT xbox360 overview....Currently, the HDD that ships with the Xbox 360 Premium package is a 20GB drive running at 5400RPM. The drive is manufactured by Samsung although it isn't listed on their website as it is an OEM drive for the Xbox 360. The drive itself uses a standard Serial ATA connector (both data cable and power cable) so attaching other drives or the Xbox 360 drive to a computer for data transfer is very possible.

I figure that a downloadable image of hard drive that ships with the system will be available for download via BitTorrent by the the 23rd, and hopefully by the end of the year you'll see aftermarket hard drive caddies that you can use with a regular laptop drive (a 60GB Hitachi Travelstar for around $100 might be nice).
