Microsoft lost me as a customer when my friends started having Red Ring of Death Problems. They lost a few of my friends also wanting to purchase the Xbox 360. We wanted to do XBL together and drop the ever changing hardware of PC to keep up with the latest FPS games. We were willing to give up the keyboard and mouse but RRoD is just bad mojo. Then the PS3 came out and pushed the market forward with technical specifications. Sure the Xbox 360 and PS3 can output very similar graphics and be nearly identical on DVD9 sized games but you cannot deny the proof that HD storage is pushing forward.

Microsoft can offer BR drives all they want but when I look at the Xbox 360 all I see is a library of games today by today's standard. I've gone the entire lifespan of the 360 without those titles and I don't miss them. What I am interested in are new titles which the PS3 will be having. I could care less if they were on BOTH system. The PS3 is generally better overall as a system and its library of games coming for the next 8 months is simply amazing and they are not having to compromise in textures or audio.

The 360 looks to have about a year left in it before they have to make hard disk concessions at the sales market. I would not doubt we will see 200+ gb drivers being released for the xbox so you can play next gen titles. That in turn with BR to get the media center features out of the 360. Why subject myself to that? I just bought a PS3 and I can go out an purchase a 250g 5400 RPM drive if I ever need to increase storage and it will be far cheaper than anything Microsoft is willing to do, probably ever, and I still have the 50g cap on the BR to chew through. 360 will probably get to the point where you can only have up to 4 premium titles on your HD at any given time and probably need 4 DVD9 disks to install through before you can even play. Just not interested in that.

Microsoft will have to bank on exclusives and XBL to push their sales once PS3 comes into its own. This will ensure they have good market position but it won't be so comfortable that Sony won't enjoy their place either.

The proprietary nonsense is a waste of everyone's time, and frankly it's a bit of a cheap shot at consumers' wallets. Even 50 cents/gig is a joke nowadays. You can go on any website and easily find 20 cents/gig or less for a nice, fat SATA drive. I'd put up with up to 30 cents/gig if Microsoft insists that you MUST buy their drives for your 360, but anything else is overpriced.

$100 for a WiFi adapter is insane. A quick pop-in over at overstock.com reveals an "Xbox Wireless Adapter" that supposedly works on the 360 for only $45. Even that's insane, considering you can pick one up for a PC for $20 pretty easily.

Some of their marketplace practices are pretty skeevy, too. I don't like being charged for content that seems like it should have been in the game since launch. There's this creepy suspicion in the back of my mind wondering if games are now being intentionally left half-finished and sold at $60 so that DLC can be added later for additional revenue.

The answer is called a wireless bridge. Plug in ethernet cable and you now have wireless. I picked up 2 USRobotics bridges for ~$25/each a couple of years ago and they've been great.

You can also mod some cheap router into a bridge using dd-wrt. The Linksys WRT54G (which I bought on sale at radioshack for ~$25 a while back) works great as a bridge to my TiVo, PS3 (has built in WiFi, but signal is better by plugging the ethernet into the bridge), and HTPC.

So basically this only targets new customers who don't own either device, right? If you own a 360 or PS3 why would you buy a BD 360 unless they are going to make games on BD? I find that unlikely. The big issue with DVD9 is that it is causing game developers to cut content or never create content on cross-platform games. It has happened on some major releases, including GTA4. It's not realistic to expect them to make a BD and DVD9 version when only a fraction of their audience can use BD. If the DVD9 360s die off and we have BD 360s, then developers can finally produce large-capacity games without having to cut content.

Company says it will not be using Sony technology in its "game console."

"As we have stated, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360," said a Microsoft official in an email to GamePro on Monday.

I always criticize Microsoft where criticism is due. As much as I like the Xbox 360, I criticize Microsoft as much as many PS3 fanboys do. And I criticize Nintendo where criticism is due, and I criticize Sony where criticism is due. If you want to discuss those things, go ahead and create your own thread. This thread is about the possibility of a 360 Blu-ray drive, and you're posting all sorts of inflammatory stuff that is not relevant to the topic of this thread. That is the definition of trolling (randay, you may want to look it up. I don't just throw the word around flippantly, I use it where it applies).
