So about 3 weeks ago after not playing my 360 for about a month, i boot it up and get the 3 red rings.

I tried again and it booted up. I started playing Graw and 15 minutes in it froze. I tested a regular dvd and again 15 minutes in it froze. I cycled the on off button many times and either got rings or a freezing system so I went and replaced it at bestbuy yesterday.

Yesterday I was playing graw and the system froze 30 minutes in. Today the same things happened when playing multiplayer again. WTF is going on?? Could it be my hardrive??? I am using the old hardrive from my original .

Im not sure if this has any relation to the most recent update opr not

Why would it have anything to do with your hard drive? You could try this: try playing that DVD after you remove the hard drive.

Good thing you bought yourself an extended warranty. Makes me wonder why the hell a company like Microsoft would only offer a 3month warranty besides for a cash grab.

Now if people who bought iPods would do the same as well since they seem to die after 15 months of use.

90 days is standard fare for console warranties.

Are you keeping it in an enclosed entertainment center? Where is the power block? I honestly can't help but be a bit suspicious of people that have problems with multiple systems. It seems like user error at that point. The whole 15-minutes and then freeze seems like a heating issue.

Anyway, I picked up my 360 last December and I have never seen the red ring of death. But all my systems are in an entertainment center that is open on all sides.

Quite a few 360s do have a cooling issue. Sell it and buy a Wii instead, Nintendo traditionally has solid hardware. ;)

You're not using an intercooler are you? These things can lead to overheating. It sounds like it could be overheating. Mine did the same thing. 15 minutes into a game it would overheat and freeze up. Took the intercooler off and it lasted a little longer but would still freeze. It was fixed by opening it up and re-applying thermal paste on the cpu/video chipsets. Worked fine after that.

Im not opening this thing up. I am not running an intercooler either.

I do however think the problem is from the fall update. My 1st 360 worked perfect until the update and this one is now freezing after the update as well

MS admitted that some consoles had issues with the fall update. Something to do with the different mixes of hardware...

Shouldn't they have found that out BEFORE they released the update? What's happened to MSFT's quality control with the 360? All these problems makes me seriously question if I want to dump $400 into something that I need to hold my breath everytime I want to play the darn thing.

QFT, this stuff scares the hell out of me. I'm not going to be buying any consoles, especially the 360 or PS3, until they've gotten through some of this crap. I'm a lot less fearful of Nintendo though, it's my perception that they're products are generally higher "quality." But they also lacked hard drives until now, so they're in the same boat as far as I'm concerned.

I'm sure not going to be dumping out that kinda money for a toy that might not even work, or not work for any longer than a few months, at any rate.

Our 360 freezes all the time and this is the second unit we've had.

Don't know how my roommate puts up with all that BS, it's like MS didn't even bother testing them before just releasing it... especially the way the games are coded. We have found 3 different places in Saints Row where you do something and it will freeze guaranteed.

I have autologin disabled. So basically, When Im connected online in Graw or Ghost Recon it freezes about 10-15 minutes into gameplay. Those 2 games are the only ones ive tried and have connected to live with.

I played GOW but live wasnt signed in and the single player was fine.

This shouldnt happen though as the system should run perfect to begin with

Are you behind a router? The fall update made it (from what I noticed) a little touchy with routers. If you dont have the ports open, it'll freeze within 10 minutes of online play.

Yes i am behind a router. Could this be the problem. My last xbox was actually screwed up because it would freeze in dvd's too. This xbox seems fine however except for the online aspect. I thought the box was screwed but ive been playing GOW for 3 hours without a hitch.

How could i fix the problem with the router
