Hopefully the 65nm refresh will have a redesigned heatsink/clamp setup that addresses the problems of the current systems.

It's really sad that the console has had these problems, I'm very impressed with the 360 as a gaming console. I'd say pick one up now with a warranty. When it dies, hopefully it'll do so at a point you can swap it for a 65nm system.

That phenomenon was caused by the 10NES lockout chip that Nintendo used to unsuccessfully try to prevent unlicensed games from being played on the NES. They took it out of the top-loading NES that came out later because it was an annoying piece of trash.

Blowing only helped in that it required you to take the game out of the console and put it back in.

That sucked so bad.
 
I've had my Elite ever since it came out and it's fine. No problems....yet. 😉 I've got a 2 yr warranty on it so I'm not worried about it.
