xbox 360 controller for PC

I bought an xbox360 controller to use on my computer.

Works perfectly out of the box.

Me too. I got the wired one, and it works great. Somehow it seems controllers made for consoles are just better than their pc counterparts... probably because they need to be - they're they only game in town.

There is a specific 360 controller just for PC... but the regular 360 wired controller works too. They're the same thing, it's just the PC edition comes with a driver CD.

Yep. I took the one that came with my 360. Did not need the driver. In January, there is supposed to be a $20 USB dongle that will let you use a wireless controller! The other thing that is nice is that most of the newer games are coming with the 360 controller as the default pad. Flight Simulator X and Legos Star Wars both come up and running with the 360 controller with all the buttons mapped out. My copy of Vista recognizes it too. Expect the controller to be THE DEFAULT for games for windows push by MS.

Scarface also maps out to the 360 controller, it's a freakin relief that they are finally going to have a default controller config specifically for the 360 controller.

Now if I could get the rumble to work in some of the games.

Don't get the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows package thingy. It's like 5 bucks more for some reason. Probably cause it comes with the driver CD. Just get the regular one and download the drivers.

Weird, I could've swore I saw them both for 39.99 at Circuit City the other day?

I'm still waiting for the wireless connector thingy-ma-bob, although I may just buckle down and buy a wired controller. I'm not sure though, since I could buy the wireless dongle and another wireless controller so if I needed it for the XBOX 360, I'd have another wireless to use.

Not to hijack the thread, but can you mention some cool PC games that plays better with a 360 controller. Or games that can be played by two on one PC?

I'd say the best games to play on the PC with a controller are emulated games. Also puzzle games tend to work nicely with controllers. Racing games also tend to be a little easier with controllers. The nice part about the XBOX 360 controller is that if you also own an XBOX 360, it works for both and you aren't stuck purchasing video game controllers and a PC controller. I agree with people enjoying a "standard" in controllers. I remember trying to get my old Gravis Xterminator gamepad working on my PC and what a chore that was. Even after hours of tinkering, I couldn't get every feature to work, even with button to keyboard emulation.

The second question... I'm not sure if this is an innate bash on PC gaming or the uselessness of controllers for PC games or a genuine question? If it's the latter, then the only game I can think of is Worms (I believe this can be played with multiple people on one PC, it's been a long time since I've played Worms Armageddon). Computer games really tend to push the solitary experience, which I've began to prefer over split-screen action.

Xmen: Ultimate Alliance
Lego Star Wars II
GTR2

are just some of the games off the top of my head that can be played by 2 people on the same computer 😉

to add to what's been said, i would imagine the controller would also be good for sports games (many of which are ports from consoles). i would love a controller for mvp baseball 2k5...

I use my extra xbox 360 controller. It makes a great game pad. Brikis, the controller is a must with mvp 2k5, as a matter of fact, I might just play that game right now. There's an issue with NHL and this controller though, but other than that it makes a great game pad.

does anyone know about the controller compatibility w/ Devil May Cry 3?

it works but the 360 controller isn't the default controller config, so the buttons are in weird places. Also the game won't go above 1028x768 or some nonsense, after that I uninstalled it.

so all I need to do is buy the xbox 360 controller ( not the 360 controller for windows package) and download the drive and it will work? Where would I go to download this driver? Whats the website please?
