Xbox 360. 2407FPW. 1080p. VGA cable.

Can the 2407 display 1080p on the 360 using a 1:1 pixel ratio in VGA? Thus, I get dimunitive black bars on the top and bottom and not that 1080 pixels stretched to 1200? Can anyone confirm this because I've heard quite a few conflicting reports. Thanks.

i have a question . i have read a bazliilion times the xbox 360 supports 1080p now. does that mean it renders games at 1080p or does it mean it upscales them to 1080p or ...what does it mean?

Upscales most likely. Rendering 1080p most of the time requires more than 8.5GB.

are you saying that 1080p works on the dell 2407 but with black bars at top and bottom? if this is the case it is working properly, since 1080p is 16:9 and 1920x1200 (your monitor's rez) is 16:10. seems to me that everything is working fine and the dell is detecting 1080p and scaling it accordingly to avoid stretching the image.

There are some setting adjustments you have to make with it to use 1:1 pixel ratio, but yes, it does. If you check the official XBox forums they have a number of configuration threads for various monitors.

As to the upscaling, it depends on the game. Dead Rising, for example, renders all cutscenes in a max resolution of 720p and upsamples if necessary, but renders the game in a different resolution. (Can't remember what it is exactly) Other games, if capable, will render at 1080p.

The 2407wfp for whatever reason disables the aspect ratio options in the menu when using the Xbox 360 over VGA @ 1080p

This is NOT a problem on the 2405fpw. 2405fpw users have reported that they are able to change between 1:1 and Fill.

For now, anyway, there's no benefit in running at 1080p unless you have the HD-DVD drive for the 360.

I've had the same problems with my 2407wfp and there is absolutely NO FIX for it. The only possible fix would be for them to include an Aspect Ratio option in the next Xbox Update, so that we would be able to select 16:10.

By the way, if you haven't noticed, there is also a problem with the video at 1080p. You will sometimes notice a sort of grid of black lines in different areas of the screen. The fix for this was found to be setting the Sharpness setting down to 30 in the screen's menu, but I've found that I have to turn this down to 30 EVERY single time I turn my Xbox on and switch to VGA.

So, moral of story ---- Dell sucks.
