So, I picked up an XBOX 360 the other day. It is, to say the least, sweet as hell. Best gaming experience I've ever had.

As part of my purchase, I picked up the (obscenely overpriced, but that's another rant for another post) VGA cable so we could hook it up to our 2005FPW. I discovered, much to my surprise, that the 360 allows me to select the resolution I want when in HDTV mode.

The 2005FPW has a native resolution of 1680x1050 (16:10). I selected 1280x768 as the output resolution, since that appeared to be the closest match to the proper aspect ratio. Was this the correct setting, or should I have used some other resolution?

I think the 360 only renders in 16:9 (internally at 1280x720). You want black bars on the top and bottom, do not try to match the 16:10 aspect ratio.

Thanks - I'll play around with that some. I didn't notice any aspect ratio issues, but, ironically, I've been enjoying Jade Empire LE as my first 360 game. Guess that backwards-compat really is a selling point...

its hard to notice, but it will be slightly stretched with a 16:9 game filling a 16:10 screen
