"we did expect something truly extraordinary out of the title, but the reality turned to be less optimistic"

"we have to note pretty low-poly body parts in some cases as well as pretty simplistic levels"

"If you are looking for realism, you are not going to witness anything new in Doom III compared to other today?s games, such as FarCry, in terms of graphics and physics. You can destroy almost nothing on the levels and you can hardly keenly injure others like in games like Soldiers of Fortune"

"Furthermore, corps do not stay even for a minute"

and thats as far as i got becuase their site never seems to work all the time, useless!!!

they make out like doom3 isnt really as good as its supposed to be....either they had very very high expectations or they are actually correct

Do you expect everyone to love Doom3 and lick Carmacks balls? Personally I thought doom3 didn't live up to it's hype and all of the carmack is the greatest game maker in the teh world and comments like that, the more and more I played, the less the game looked like all of the publicity shots all over gamespot and the like

Meh. I'm enjoying it more than any game I've played for many years, maybe ever. To me it looks a lot more realistic than Far Cry.

 There's a difference between D3 and FarCry... DOOM is actually fun to play, FarCry had a bogus story and got boring really fast.

well im am goin from the point of veiw of reading all the hype, then reading what maybe reality all before the game is even released here, my friends even said they will probably jus overlook D3 as they thought it wont be "all that and a bag of chips" and are jus waiting on Stalker and maybe HL2

but i feel let down, i was really hyped for doom3 but having read that it seems there isnt much substance to the hype, and its jus a regular game with pretty graphics

maybe i will do the sensible thing an grab the demo before hand over my hard earned for this game

I don't think it sucks. I'd give it a 75%, all things considered.

For comparison's sake, I would have given Painkiller a 65% and Far Cry a 90%.

Unfortunatly, no. Or at least I haven't been able to find anything since it was announced that it would come out after the game sells.

Boring? Did you even finish the game?

Farcry by far has the best non-linear story gameplay. Last 5 levels out of the massive 18 levels kicks a$$.....even though it took me an average of 10 tries per level in the last 5 levels and no resorting to cheats.

I'm enjoying the game. It's very solid, and very beautiful. They put a LOT of detail into the game, and not just graphics wise. However, I'm finding a lot of things that just aren't boding well with me. I'm playing the game on normal mode "Marine". When zombies or imps hit me, they do like 5 damage when I've got full armor. Plus, when I retrace my steps to places I've been once or several times before, a monster appears out of nowhere when I know I cleared everything. It's like he just warps. It would be neat if he broke out of a vent in the ceiling or something, but he just will appear in the middle of hallways and such. I remember someone commenting about how the game feels like you're walking into a haunted house. Go somewhere and a ghost pops up in a predictable spot. That's how I feel about the game so far, and it makes it kind of hard for me to be scared. I'm just not getting any "wow" out of the experience like I did when I played FarCry. Don't get me wrong, the game is great. I'm not very far, so maybe things will get better, and I'm sure they will :)

I would have to agree with note about the rather low poly counts, and how the textures look like ass up close.

BTW Avalon, the imps teleported in doom and doom2 as well. ( it was a weird orange greenish portal )

they have reasonable quibbles. I myself have found the game extremely fun. I'll stand by my farcry experience as its left a more memorable impression. not just its gameplay, but the graphics, the AI, and the physics engine overall were superior to D3s IMO. If HL2 can give us D3 textures in a backdrop superior to farcry, and a storyline to boot, HL2 is going to be the best game ever.

Some of you guys are ridiculous. Doom3 is a great game. So is Farcry. They just have different strengths and weaknesses. Doom3 looks great indoors, lacks in some of the physical effects, but has the best suspense and "fear" factor I've ever seen in a game. Farcry has great outdoors (not that its indoors is bad) and has far superior multiplayer.

Well for me . . . i have been running it for an hour without ANY slowdowns . . . BUT i still haven't found the duct tape for the flashlight and the machine gun. :p

I'm playing with my Radeon 9800"XT" at 10x7 HiQ 8xAF/2xAA everything 'on' (except v-synch).
(Overdrive is DISabled; over 412Mhz there is artifacting; at 411Mhz it is perfect)

Other than being BORING gameplay, the graphics are AWESOME . . . even the PDA crap is OK but it is NOT "creepy" or "scary" :p

(OTOH, Thief III: Deadly Shadows has "Ordinary Excellent" graphics BUT the GAMEPLAY is TOP NOTCH; after a few more minutes, i will put Diii away and finish Thief - a MUCH better game, IMO - if you want "Creepy" try the "Insane Asylum/Haunted Orphanage Mission . . . it has palpable "ATMOSPHERE" unlike the thin/weak "Martian Air" of Doom)

Im into doom 3 SLIGHTLY more then i was into farcry. Farcry did seem lacking in some levels, but fun in the beginning. Im only an hour or so into doom 3, so i can only tell u that the beginning is just a little better then farcry overall. Totally different, but overall slightly better. I hope once i get 3/4 the way through the game i dont have the same few dull levels like i expericanced in farcry.

I can see where Xbit are coming from. Thinking about it, Doom1 was pretty revolutionary for its time in the sense that it was the best of its time and nothing came close. PC Games have changed somewhat and with so many companies all knocking out the same stuff for the same platforms, things are gonna get a bit similar. To be honest I think the remade 'Return to Wolfenstein' was more 'revolutionary' than Doom3 in terms of game physics, graphics quality, etc.

I think, after the couple of years of build-up we have been getting (some of it from ID games), people were expecting another game that was at the pinnacle of gaming for the moment, but I don't really think Doom3 is. Doom3 is great for its time, but yeah, you can have more fun shooting bits of people off in SoF, Farcry is better in some ways, etc. etc., but I still think it will be a classic mainly because it has some atmosphere to it.

I've heard that todays hardware couldn't handle the Doom III engine with high res textures and high poly-count models plus the awesome lighting. Maybe in a couple years the hardware will catch up to the engine and we will see what it's really capable of.

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed in the texture quality and character detail. As of right now, take away the cool lighting and the Doom III engine is nothing special.

FarCry is better graphically than Doom.

More shaders, lighting quality can be achieved in FarCry equal/better than that of Doom, and Character models are better, textures can be offset mapped, etc...

Doom3 is a great game however.

This is what I don't understand. How can people be disappointed w/ the texture quality when in some cases the game requires over 500MB of video memory for textures?
