XBit's 8800 GTX benchmarks are up

Interesting to note that you may have to reinstall XP to get rid of the pernacious old nvidia gpu registry entries and so see the true performance benefit of the 8800 gtx (in the stuff that is not fixed by nvidia's registry tweak solution).

Since it does not mention the gts..i will assume it does not have the same limitations.
Not so important to me..now that i have to wait for a stable 680i or rd600 motherboard to show up.

I agree, I always like Xbit simply for the range of games they use. I don't play 3Dmark and I don't need to see reviews from just the top 3 first person shooter games on every single site.

Yeah. I used Driver Cleaner Pro when I went from 2 7800GT's to an X1900XTX and bypassed a reformat. Why does the move from Nvidia to Nvidia equate a Windows re-installation?

Possibly the older registries could hinder the 8800 series at a software level. We all know the G8x is nothing like the NV4x and its variants. This is the reason why nVIDIA is abandoning the UDA (unified driver architecture). Its possbily another reason why drivers are taking along time to mature because its something nVIDIA hasnt dealt with before. Even experienced software engineers could have time dealing with all the new stuff because the lack of experience in the new field. Unlike the G7x where it was very similiar in terms of the original NV4x.

I think the issue is more than just registry entries. I believe something inside the driver is causing this.

I have a feeling that they have started A LOT earlier due to the big number of benchmarks

Has the new AF on the 8800's fixed the shimmering you guys have experienced in the past?

The shimmering was pretty much fixed on G71 + HQ except in a couple of spots where G80 does indeed look better.

The main benefit is angle-independant AF which makes every surface look uniformly detailed. I must admit I underestimated the impact it would have and it especially works well in old games by preserving what little texture detail they have as much as possible.

Yeah but 97.44 has even more problems than 97.02 (for me anyway).

What new problems are you getting? The ones from your NVidia forums post was for the 97.02 driver right?
