Back in the days, PCs were advancing so fast, you'd build a PC and a month later have buyer remorse and start overclocking and thinking about the next build. So I remember always being on these hardware review sites. Now I just wait till a PC breaks to upgrade it.

I finally upgraded my early 2012 gaming PC over Xmas, though I had replaced the GPU in late 2015 for Fallout 4. The i5-2500 was still doing OK, I just wanted more RAM and cores to mess around with development at home.

My work PCs are prebuilts and last 4-5 years between upgrades.

Yep, tech sites are much less necessary for most people than they were 10 years ago.

The passion has never died for me. It just comes in waves of intensity. I can't imagine not getting the latest in PC parts.

I can't imagine not building my desktop rigs, and I've been doing it since 2000. The money I save by not using Windows can stay in my pocket or go towards better hardware.

As someone that has been on this site for a long time so much blasphemy in this thread with the store bought lol.

I will pray for you guys 🙂

The tech site scene seems to be smaller and smaller. I used to run a small one myself called Iceteks.com. At one point it got half decently popular and I got quite a lot of traffic. The site is still up and I have no plans to close it down, but I have not really written any content for it yet or done anything to it. I want to bring the forums back at least, as they were neglected to the point where I had to close them down due to too many hackers. Was only suppose to be like a few weeks which turned to months which turned to years. Just got lazy.

Not sure what direction I want to bring the site to but I'll want to come up with something if I want to draw any kind of traffic. Now days it's also not worth using ad networks since most people use ad blockers now and I don't blame them - I do too. Most ads now are full of malware and crap. So if it does get any decent traffic I may just setup a system where people can advertise directly.
