Xbitlabs does it again

Wow! Those are some results I didn't expect. I thought the 512MB 7800GTX would have a sizeable lead but if you look at the max eye-candy settings the X1800XT is right there with it. If these results came out of one of the less trustworthy review sites I would have dismissed them, but coming from X-bit Labs says something.

I wish they had tested some SLI setups in the high end category. Good article otherwise though.

Turn on Adaptive AA/HQ AF for the XT and SSAA/HQ AF for the 512 GTX and I bet you there would be hardly any difference between them in framerate or the XT might even lead. This roundup just proves that the 512 GTX was never worth the $750+ it's been selling for.

Not surprising.

X1800XT keeps up with the 512MB GTX fairly well except for AOE3 which could be because there are no optimizations by ATI yet for that game.

Interesting results for the x1600xt in AOE3:

.............................x1600..............6800gt
10x7 no AA.............23 fps.............41 fps
10x7 4x AA.............23 .................22

It definitely looks crippled by something, and I'm blaming those 4 TMU's

this is a very nice overall picture of what each company has to offer.
one thing is clear though. Anyone thinking of getting a 6600 series should take a look at this and see what else is available in that price range.
