Xanboo home security cameras @ $49.99

Hey folks if your like me you stash alot of gold and Spainish Doubloons in your house. Am i right? Yeah its normal. You know what folks doing that can cause serious pirate problems.
Thats why now that I picked up these Xanboo security system at $49.99 and additional color cameras for $49.99. I picked them at my local B&M Compusa but their available online too

These cameras are wired, right? So you've got to string wires from the camera to an always-on PC and pay $9.95 a month to access the cameras and sensors over the net. I can deal with that if I can build a low power consumption, quiet PC, which could also act as a media server in the house. Which would consume less power, a Celeron or a Via C3? (I live in power-poor California).

Now if these cameras were 802.11b-enabled at anywhere near this price, the system would be a lot more interesting....

Don't be silly and buy more cameras. Buy more base units which INCLUDE the camera. That way you have replacement base units should they break.

I tried them when they first came out.
not impresive at all, and their support sucks.
I also found no way of geting the software to work with a server other than theirs.

my 2 cents.

good point scoot.
I have not looked at my xanboo equipment yet but I was hopping it could be used without the service possibly it can only still be viewed while in the house. Even better if someone could put a hack out so it would post video to say my personal webpage for online viewing.

I'm just sticking with my Axis 2100s. They run Linux, are excellent on support, and only run about $300 these days.

Oh so i Just started reading the directions and it says you can monitor the camera's from your computer, then it occured to me that I could use a program like citrix or netop or www.gotomypc.com and just check in on my computer from anywhere i have net connection. Now if only their was some way i could get it to alert me via my phone or pager without their service.

What about quality of image of these babes ? is the same as cheapo web cam ?

I remember few month ago hear about software, that makes similar thing from your web cam.

Save some money. Why pay their 9.95 per month monitoring fee when you can get the X10 equivalent without fees. X10 quality is no worse than Xanboo cameras and they are cheaper as well.

And no, I do not work for X10. I just like their stuff and want to share my experience.
