Hello everyone i was busy playing tomb raider on my pc yesterday when it decided to freeze i could do nothing with it i had to switch off the power then switch back on at which point the bios came up but my boot drive wasn't showing up (sandisk extreme pro 480gb).I disconnected it plugged it in to another pc via external dock yep everything there so put it back in my x99 deluxe u3.1 build switched on & now i get press f1 to enter setup & recover bios settings but it will not give me the bios setup screen at all. Ive tried everything but no joy the code on the motherboard is A2 any ideas to help me get moving again much appreciated this is driving me daft 😀

So you're saying it doesnt respond to your keyboard (pressing F1)?
Is your keyboard plugged into a USB3 port, or USB2?
It sounds like you have a bad SATA cable or your boot order has changed in bios.

No it doesn't respond at all if i press ctrl - alt - del it shuts down & restarts says on the screen press f1 to enter setup & recover bios but nothing responds so i am kind of stuck

Already tried that tried booting with just one ram stick then two three & four been through all i can think of barring the hard drive got a new one on its way incase its that

Just put the drive into another pc it got so far then said looks like your pc ran into a problem & gave me the choice of refresh windows or shut down pc i shut it down because i don't want to upset anything there so i am hoping now that when the new drive goes in tomorrow the problem will be solved

i thought sod it & reinstalled windows on the drive in another pc put it back & still the same so that rules out it being the drive i am begining to think its going to turn out to be my motherboard

Similar thing happened to me once. System hard froze and I couldn't get back to BIOS or anything. Tried replacing each and every part of the system, including the motherboard, but nothing worked.

Turned out my 5820K had died. 🙁

Try disabling the CSM (compatibility support module) in the bios. I had a similar problem here and that solved it. It might be worth a try.

It just happened in my case it worked fine on one install then started having those symptoms after I reinstalled windows.

The problem is i cant get past the megatrends screen to disable anything though or is there another way to do this

OK folks Problem solved thankyou for your input I aren't sure how but its up & running again I think it was a faulty f1 key on my keyboard I had tried pressing it while it was plugged in to another pc & no problem. But I found out it doesn't work every time so plugged in a new keyboard & yippee straight to boot menu select my drive & off we go again 😀only problem now my newly added third drive isn't showing on my pc but shows in boot screen very strange

Is the new drive, a brand new? If so enter disc management and initialize the drive from there sp the OS can see it.

If you got a PS2 IO on that platform, try it. For a USB Key Board use a cheap Microsoft USB $20 Keyboard.

If it worked before with your Hardware, apparently, your MB Bios is scrambled - Shut the system down, pull the plug and let it drain before you reboot - USB devices can be fickle.

You may need a firmware BIOS UpDate for the Main Board that fix's USB Boot devices.

Nothing worse not having a KeyBoard in NIOS or a DOS Boot.
