Concerning the boards that have 10 SATA3 ports, are they all connected to the Intel controller, or do they use a mix of Intel and some 3rd party?

Per the article:
included as 802.11 B/G/N WiFi

I really hope that this is a typo. In 2014, with a brand new chipset, to not offer AC as a wireless standard is a crime. Other than that, it does look like a solid board.

Guru also posted some info on Corsair's DDR4 Vengeance kit:

My ideal X99 will have vga, pci slots and 3.5/5.5 floppy disk connectors. Oh and a Turbo button of course and come preloaded with a Bell and Howell bios ....

Gigabyte boards our out for me, looks like they have only implemented M.2 with 2 x pcie2.0 lanes from the PCH for only 10Gb M.2 slots.

ASROCK and MSI are implementing 4 x pcie 3.0 for 32Gb potential and future proofing.

And here is the reason why 4 x PCIe 3.0 controllers already sampling, theoretical 4GB/s (32Gb/s)

Gigabyte really short sighted on their M.2 implementation.

Maybe marvel forgot to mention it to Gigabyte, (BTW we have a 4 x PCIe 3.0 controller in development, it would be a good idea if you included that feature on your HEDT boards)

ASRock released more info and specs on the Xtreme 4 and 6 boards. Great news is that both boards include the ultra m.2 slot and the upgraded audio:

Xtreme 6

Xtreme 4
X99-Extreme4_Top_w_600.jpg

Differences between the 4 and 6:
The Extreme4 board has four PCI-Express x16 slots, although you’ll only be able to install three dual-slot graphics cards. The same goes for the Extreme6 board, which has three PCI-Express x16 slots. While the Extreme6 sacrifices one PCI-Express x16 slot in exchange for an x1 slot, it does have a mini-PCI-Express slot that can be used to install wireless cards. The Extreme6 model also has an extra USB 3.0 front header, an internal USB 2.0 port, two additional USB 3.0 ports, dual Intel Gigabit Ethernet and an additional heatsink near the rear I/O. The Extreme6 board also has a debug Q-code readout, which the Extreme4 appears to be missing.

Another interesting note:
ASRock also shared with us that all of the X99 motherboards have 12-phase VRM circuitry and that there are upcoming models with 1300 W CPU support. That surprised us a bit, but an ASRock spokesman let us know that the support was for extreme overclocking under super cold environments (read: liquid nitrogen).

I think im gonna get an ASUS RoG series.

But im waiting to see which watercooling vendor will have a full board block for the said unit before I end up buying one for my 5960K.

I've been pretty set on a ROG board again, but, I would really like an all black motherboard. It needs to be really high quality though and I don't want EVGA. I'd also like to avoid having to use a motherboard waterblock this time, so I want something with great VRM cooling.

I might go for the Asus X99 Deluxe. The black and white theme works for my build and it looks like it has a tall heatsink on the VRMs, unless my eyes are failing me.

I'm pretty much an ASUS FanBoi for MOBO's

If I go there in the future will be one of theirs I imagine.

Just a personal thing I guess.

All three MOBOs here are ASUS at home I guess, and a few others I've built for people.

Is just my preference I guess after using many over the years, IMHO.

Hmmm... with my current setup I'll need 11 SATA connectors. I suppose I could move my backup HDD to a NAS enclosure and put it on the network.

Edit: Solved the problem. Bought a 256GB 850 Pro and four 1TB 840 EVOs.
