Help!

My fiance purchased this board last summer for $500! The fan stopped working completely and it will heat up and halt the machine faster than a bomber running through an airport.

The store will honor the guarantee but they no longer have any comparable AGP stock. Closest thing is $400 7800GS they say is much better, later gen product, etc.

I've looked at some charts and I am not convinced.

Is the 7800GS a worthy replacement for a X850XT? NOT PLATINUM.

System has 3.4G Norwood Processor and 3G RAM so it's not too shabby.

Thanks

not for $400, EVGA GeForce 7800 GS $290.69... just "factory OC" the card yourself

You're in between a rock and a hard place. X850XT's can still be found, but the AGP ones are now hard to find. I think the store should give you something like this card, which would be a worthy replacement to your XT - if the core is in the 440-460 range it'll be pretty fast. Performance should be at least as good, and has a few more features. I would try to make them give you the "superclock" eVGA.

I think this is probably the best idea although the 7800GS would be a rough equivalent to the X850XT if you want a fast solution.

i would make them replace the exact card, if they are a larger retailer they can contact other stores in their chain and maybe get you the same card back.

Ok got a new system with PCI-Express. :D

They said they will do even exchange for X1800XT 512MB but it has to be ordered. They have 512MB X1900XTX in stock NOW but want another $150.00.

So the question is: Is the X1900XTX worth $150 over the X1800XT? How much difference in those cards. Yes games will be played. Currently have 30" and 24" LCD's.

New system is pretty nice, FX60 w/ 2GB. :D -M

EDIT: updated typos

Heh, nice...

Well, I'd ask 'em if you could also get the X1900XT for just $100, as the XTX is nothing more than an OC'd XT (Although they apparenetly OC a lot better than XTs, but I think that depends more on luck), and you'd still get an excellent preformance boost from an X1800XT.

If that's not possible, then I guess I'd go with the XTX if you plan to use that 30" for gaming. Otherwise, the 1800XT should be adequate for the 24". It really just depends on whether or not you MUST have top-teir preformance.

I would say that for only an additional $150 I would spring for the X1900XTX.

If you can wait a week or so look into the 7900GT/GTX, also there is the rumor of ATI price drops and the X1800GTO.

Otherwise maybe a X1900XT since it performs close to a XTX but costs less.

Got the X1900XTX for $50 more. The two year guarantee was another $80. :D

This thing is a beast. Sounds like a hemi when booting up. I like it. :) -M

ditch the old board, get a new board w/ a pci-e and grab a x850xt for a relatively low price.
